There were Internet stories the last couple of days that January (Emma Frost) Jones and Rose (Moira McTaggert) Byrne hadn't been contacted about being in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

But Bryan Singer sez we're definitely getting Rogue, Iceman and Kitty Pryde back:

Wow, that was a nice shot at Ratner in there as well. I have to say the more casting news we hear, the more I am excited about this than I am the other Marvel films.

Disclosure: I'm friends of friends of Bryan Singer and I know a little bit about how X-Men: The Last Stand came together. I don't think that was a shot at Brett Ratner; in truth, Bryan Singer and Brett Ratner are good friends. Singer gave Ratner his blessing to direct X-Men. Ratner also didn't have quite as much input in how that debacle came together as one would think. To be sure, he's not that great a director and he's responsible for a lot of why the movie sucks, but he was also under time constraints to make a release date and his main job as director was to get the movie in the can on time. He was mainly a for-hire director, not a visionary auteur. One of Ratner's major contributions to The Last Stand's structure was to move the big set piece of Magneto moving the Golden Gate Bridge to Alcatraz from the middle of the movie to the finale, which I guess was an improvement. I don't know how the script originally had the finale of the movie set up. I'm not absolving Brett Ratner of responsibility for The Last Stand, but the main culprits were Tom Rothman and FOX for slapdashing the third X-Men together.

I am getting really excited about this movie. I think the potential is there to redeem the original trilogy and give us a great series to move forward with. Here's hoping that some time travely goodness will bring Cyclops and Prof X back.

Sounds like they worked out how their time travel works too. (bleedingcool.com)

That’s what makes Terminator and Back to the Future work so well. And there are certain mechanisms in X-Men, certain powers, perceptions and characters, that make this possible.

Peter Dinklage of Game of Thrones was cast. (variety.com) Which is awesome.

The article says Dinklage is not only a villain but "the main antagonist". I'm making a wild guess: He's playing Apocalypse. Some CGI to shapeshift his form and his superior acting can do the rest.

He's a bit diminutive to play Proteus, but that's who I would have had pegged as the bad guy for this one.

It'd be plain bizarre if he got cast to play Sinister.

The latest rumor is...Bolivar Trask. Who apparently was a large, black man in X3.

Maybe he's playing Gateway. (en.wikipedia.org)

Very, very interesting Bryan Singer interview. (ign.com) As far as I'm concerned, he can fix all the X-Men shit he wants.

A Storm is coming.

Nothing against Halle Berry, per se, and it's great to have the old gang back together, but also, eh. The original X-Men movie cast is pretty much the best of who was available and willing to do it 14 years ago. Hugh Jackman worked out the best and seems to barely age so he is pretty much Wolverine For Life until he ever decides to retire as The Best At What I Do, Bub.

I mean, recasting Xavier, Magneto, Beast, and Mystique with James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, and Academy Award winner and winner of the 74th Hunger Games Jennifer Lawrence was a canny move. But the rest of the X-cast needs to be infused with the same kind of new blood.

Who knows when we'll ever see an X-Men movie with Storm, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Rogue, Iceman, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Kitty Pryde recast with younger but still super talented actors like the names above.

Rebecca Romijn will be feeling pretty blue if she doesn't to at least cameo as Mystique again like she did in First Class.
