Ahhh...we will see. Not sold on the music. I am sure someone will throw the John Williams score and we will see how it plays.

I'm 100% certain it's temp music for the trailer and the Hans Zimmer score will be original.

On the subject of music, and this is aimed at no one in particular, this is my take on John Williams' Superman theme: I don't want to hear it.

Let this Superman be a new take, including the music. One of Superman Returns' missteps was hanging its cape on nostalgia for Superman: The Movie and Superman II.

If you want to hear the John Williams music, by all means, pop in the DVD you probably already own and feel like a kid again.

But let Man of Steel be something different.

It'd be like if Batman Begins used Elfman for their music, no?

Batman Begins could use Elfman's music. That theme really didn't come into its own til the end of Dark Knight. Shit, if you get those soundtracks, its barely there. I am also not sold on Johnathan telling Clark to let a school bus full of kids die to keep his secret. If people thought Returns had too much Jesus metaphors, the trailer already has it beaten in spades.

That was done on purpose, completely by design by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard. The idea was that Batman had to earn his theme in Batman Begins and it evolves into its full theme throughout the trilogy. In effect, you got the point of what they did without even realizing it.

I guess, by accident as did probably the audience. Its still a weak theme.

I am feeling a lot better about this movie. While I also felt a little odd hearing Jonathan Kent say that a bus full of kids should have been left to die, I also understand where I think that is meant to come from, from a father trying to keep his son safe. It also underscores what should always be the central conflict in Superman. Superman can do anything, so the story should never be about what he can and can't do (ie., "I can't save everyone!"). He'll also always do the right thing - that's what makes him Superman. The conflict is whether or not Superman knows what the right thing to do in a situation is. It seems like this movie is going to spend a lot of time on that.

You and lotjx made that point. I read it as Jonathan saying, "Maybe? I don't know... There are no easy answers..."

I read a lot into it. Clark's adopted. It's obvious he ain't from around here. Jonathan knows his son will leave one day, maybe to go back ... there, and he might not come back. The more he uses those powers, the sooner he's going to go. Also, people will be terrified when they see the things Clark can do, and they may hasten Clark's departure, voluntarily or not. Mr. Kent doesn't want to lose his son. And he knows how it sounds to say he's willing, ultimately, to keep let others potentially die to keep Clark safe. He's not proud of that, but there he is.

I think we are missing the most important part of this trailer. Supes has a beard in part of the trailer then he is clean shaven in another part. How the hell is he able to find a trimmer that can cut his fricking hair?

According to the comics, he uses his heat ray vision reflected off a mirror.

I am not sold. This looks like the "grim and gritty" Superman everyone joked about when Nolan got on board.

Superman is not Batman. Superman should be FUN.

I kind of disagree. I don't think that Superman has to be fun, necessarily, and I think there are quite a lot of very good Superman stories that are not really fun. For example, my absolute favorite Superman story is "Superman for All Seasons," and I don't think I would pick fun as the word to describe it. I think what Superman overwhelmingly has to be is hopeful. Superman stories can't be grim or bleak. They have to be intrinsically optimistic, which is sometimes fun, but sometimes a bit more stark.

So in 2013 we're getting a Superman movie, with General Zod, and a Star Trek movie, that may or may not have Khan. But the Superman movie won't have the "Kneel before Zod" line and the Star Trek movie won't have the "Kkkhhhaannnn" line.

Disappointed.

I'm Not Playing Khan In Star Trek Into Darkness

SPOILER (maybe): The character's name is revealed in the link. Everything I've read just credits him as the antagonist.

My main issues with Superman movies is that we know his origin unless your in single digits, and Super man doesn't have very good bad guys. It's always Zod or Lex. Why don't we get Bizarro, Brainiac, or Doomsday.

If you pretend the machine in Superman III is proto-Brainiac, it makes for a more enjoyable movie. Ok, no it doesn't, but its at least something. Superman IV was supposed to have Reeves as Bizzaro, but they didn't have the money to do it. They pretty much blow the money on Hackman and Reeves much to even Reeves disappointment since he was a producer on it.
