Anyone seen the new series? I THINK it is on Nicktoons. I am enjoying it quite a bit. I was a fan of the original Mirage B&W comics back in the day. No amount of nostalgia can salvage the original cartoons though, they are just not very good.

This new series is like a reboot. You get some stuff from the Mirage comics like the TCRI corporation. You get some stuff from the original cartoon (I've seen their take on Metalhead and Baxter Stockman).

The best thing is the characters. The original cartoon's turtles were pretty one note, except for Raphael, who had no personality at all. Here everyone is more well rounded. Leo is still the leader, but isn't much more mature than his brothers, he dreams of being a hero like the captain on his favorite sci-fi show (which looks suspiciously like the Star Trek Animated series). Donatello is the brainy nerd, Raphael is the tough guy of the group. Best of all is Michaelangelo. Instead of being the lame surfer dude stereo type, he endearingly naive and stupid.

Splinter is probably my next favorite character as he is no longer the super serious sage. A lot of his ancient wisdom is played for laughs, like,

I have not caught a new episode of the turtles in a while but from what I have seen I have been pleasantly suprised. I was a bit upset with the change to Splinters origin but other than that it has been good fun. With understandable updates for the current crowd.

Yeah, it's great and fun and you didn't even mention the re-imagining of Krang as "The Kraang" and their endlessly amusing speech patterns.

How was Splinter's origin different? Seemed the same as the original cartoon to me.

The Krang are awesome. Didn't mention them because I'm not really sure how to explain the way they talk. It is like, well, aliens with English as their second language.

Oh and Baster Stockman is black now.

Stockman was black in the original comics. Splinters origin as a man that turns into a Rat is far off from the small rat that turns into a giant talking rat. It also doesn't gel well with the turtles mutations.

Was he? I don't even remember Stockman in the comics.

I agree about Splinter, but they are going with the cartoon version of mutagen where you mutate into whatever you last touched.

Stockman and the mousers are actually the first villains the Turtles face in the comics. Shredder is down the line and is just in for one storyline then they kill him. I bought the omnibus for my wife and she loves Turtles, might give this a try.
