Brief recap of Season 4 before we begin. Clay needs to die. He murdered Piney, beat the shit out of Gemma, put a hit out on Tara and got the club shit deep in a cartel that somewhat lukewarm surprisingly was the CIA. After Opie shot him, Jax is now in charge and knows Clay killed his Dad. So, there you go and off we go. Did I mention Tig killed the daughter the head of a rival gang by accident, because of Clay. Dude's name is Damien Pope, awesome.
Its a few weeks later and we see everyone dealing with the fall out of season 4. Clay has to wear the air mask Piney did, Jax is writing and narrating the show ala JT and Gemma is getting rammed doggystyle by Jimmy Smits. A second into the show and Jimmy Smits is bare ass and all up in the best actress on TV. Gotta love that guy. Jax and company are ambushed by the Niners, Pope's people. They save the coke, but the truck is burned to the ground. After coming home, Gemma awakes naked and finds a bunch of other naked girls when Jimmy Smits walks in. He informs her, that she nailed the girls and told him her name was Rose. Gemma sorta believes him plus she is a gun in her hand during their entire conversation. Jimmy informs her, his name is Nero and he runs a high class call girl escort service. Again, you have to love the names on this show.
Jax gets back home and informs Tara of his bad night. She tells him, she is shoving the kids into daycare ie far away from Gemma. We are then introduced to Damien Pope and his paid off Oakland Detectives. We find out he killed LeRoy who was dating his daughter and the real target of Tig's rage. He puts some random kid in charge and tells them he is meeting with SOA thanks to the Cartel. We also get Bobby back from prison thanks to the CIA Cartel and we head to Chapel, where Clay confesses to everything in his own way. This might be the most shocking moment of the episode, to have Clay own up to killing Piney, in his self defense which it was not, is rather startling. He even admits that Opie shot him as well as saying it was the Niners when it was not. After that jaw dropping announcement. Jax is leary of the entire thing, but he has to deal with Pope. First, he has to go to Piney's memorial where Opie says Jax is gone to the darkside and he is afraid of turning into Jax.
The meeting with Pope ends with Pope's right hand man killing random Niner leader after the guy gave the leader an empty gun to shot Jax. Jax gets the message that Pope can kill them all at anytime. Which leads to the most horrifying scene for the start of the 2012/2013 TV season. Tig is told his daughter is arrested in Oakland, so he meets with a cop who turns out to be Pope's paid off Detective. They chain Tig up as he watches his daughter be burned to death all the while begging Pope to kill him instead. The other part of Pope's plan is to have a number of witness claim Jax, Tig and Chips involved in a car chase that killed Pope's daughter and another Niner which yeah that did happen, but you get the feeling these are not legit witnesses. Even the new Charming sheriff finds it very weird. This leads to Jax, Bobby and Chips heading to Jimmy Smits' place to hide out. Tig does escape and kills the Oakland Detective. We get a montage of everyone feeling like shit. Tara turns off the monitor to the baby's room as Thomas is screaming his head off. Opie sells his bike. Clay can't get even hold the bike to keep it upright thus his time in SOA is probably over. The guys meet Jimmy Smits and through the episode there is talk of home invasions in Charming. While Unser is in Gemma's house and about to lock up when he is attacked by three guys dressed in black and one of them has an artificial foot.
So, my wife put it well when Bobby returned to the group at the chapel and is hugged by Jax. That was going to be the happiest we will be all season. I have to agree. This season is setting up to more depressing than the last one which turned dark at the mid-way point not that this was a happy go luck show to begin with. If you have not seen season 4, I ask you to watch it even with the rather bullshit end of the CIA being behind the Cartel and Clay not getting death which he, so deserved. Yet, up until the finale, it was by far their best season they did. This episode is all about the ramifications of season 4 as well as either setting Jax up for a giant fall as the leader or putting him through the ringer so much that he will be victorious at the end. Sutter does a great job of leaving you with a lot of questions like how powerful is Pope, will the CIA Cartel kill Jax, when do Tara/Gemma have their Wrestlemania match and who the fuck is the one legged man? I can't wait for the rest of this season.

Cool a SOA thread!
I'm excited for this season because most seasons are centered around Clay, Gemma, Tara, and Jaxx and at least one of the lower tier SOA members. Season 3 focused on Chibs and rescuing his family, and season 4 focused on Juice (Who is still being used as an informant for Charming PD). This season is will be centered on our favorite degenerate Tigg and him dealing with the repercussions of being one of the worst hitmen ever, and getting revenge on the merciless Pope.
Speaking of the Pope, that's a scary scary dude. If even SOA's version of The Crips are afraid of him I don't want no part of someone like that. There's no telling how far his influence goes either. This may be the most realistically frightening villain Sutter has ever created for the show.

So glad this season is here. They seemed to pick up with the intensity that last season had built to. Plus, I've always loved Jimmy Smitts in everything he's done (yes, even the show about the Cuban sugar farmers). Can't wait to ser what he brings to the table.
