Inspired pick as a VP candidate? Yet another mistake by the Romney campaign? Or are you confused and think it's the guy from the Tom Clancy novels?

He's not a bad pick, but Ryan won't move the numbers like a Rubio would. But not a Palin

Ryan is the architect of the Conservative Budget, so expect that to be be picked apart in detail by the Left. Anytime the Right touches Medicare, they lose.

Ryan is pro gay - which ain't Conservative

Ryan voted YES on TARP - which ain't Conservative

Worst of all, he shows up at these events looking like he just woke up off a park bench. Stylist needed

I was confused, but not with that guy. People were tweeting along the lines of "Paul as VP" and I was living in a reality where Ron Paul (or maybe Rand Paul) was on the ticket. The campaign became a lot less interesting when I found the full name.

I also thought he was Rand Paul for a few minutes til I saw it was a guy more heartless when it comes to the old, middle class and poor. While, something will need to be done about medicare, the real problem is the defense budget that is keeping us underwater and will for a long time if not ever. So, I find his budget laughable at best, a disaster at worst. And since that is the only thing about him that makes him, appealing, I am not sure why this would appeal to the independent voters out there or even some Catholic voters since the church blasted it as well. It might rally the tea party, but lets all be honest here, those people were going to vote Romney anyway.

I agree with Ryder, Rubio would have done more. He would have given Romeny an edge in Florida as well as make some states with large Hispanic population. Ryan may give him Wisconsin, but even that is not for certain. Even when they voted to keep Walker, they got rid of a bunch of Republicans and exit polls showed a large support for Obama just not for the recall. I suspect the Koch Brothers to pour money into Wisconsin to get that 10 electoral points, maybe. I have heard the odds of Obama winning actually went up after the announcement.

He's voted for nearly every anti-LGBT rights bill that's been put forth, including the Constitutional Amendment banning gay marriage.

I only say 'nearly' because there *might* be some WI bill about which I am not aware.

So... no, he's not really all that "pro-gay".

What? Here I was thinking it was the democrats, and their President that just cut half a trillion from the Medicare budget, while swelling the number of people stuck using it.

Gee that Paul Ryan sure must be a horrible guy.

Its better than the entire thing which is what Ryan wants to do. Also, the reason the numbers are swelling is due to time something no president can control. Giving voucher is idiotic, its the same nonsense of putting Social Security in the stock market back in the 90s, which was another GOP idea. Thank God, we didn't do that. A $15,000 voucher wouldn't cover one cancer treatment let alone the pills. Trust me, I know.

Yeah, the only thing that seemed to change was it was going to be implemented in 2023 instead of 2022. The article does point, its going to cost seniors more and raising the age to 67. Its a terrible plan.

Nobody ON medicare will see a raise in price. People not on it YET, will have plans available to them for them to choose from. If, and ONLY if the plan they choose costs more than the federal payment to the insurers, will the beneficiary have to pay out of pocket.

Yeah, that just sounds horrible.

BTW, who's really hurting medicare?

The article states the CBO believes it will go up. Also, if the budget doesn't cut the military, its a joke. We spend a large amount on military bases and projects that at the end of the day are useless. Until they address that massive problem, then picking on medicare and social security is just picking on the old, poor and disadvantaged.

Lets see, what do the facts say? Oh, as a nation, we spend more on Education, Medical care and pensions than we do on the military.(Not to mention, it's the only thing of those four that are actually authorized in the constitution)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_budget_of_the_United_States

2010, said we spent the same percentage on social security and 3 percent more on medicare. Which makes it the third highest department spent on. Now part of the defense budget going down probably has to do with us getting out of Iraqi. That is a budget, I can live with. It also pretty well noted that our surplus from the 90s was lost on military spending for the Middle Eastern wars. And yeah, it is a massive problem.

Ryan has stated he will increase the defense budget thus we will go back to the 2010 if not worse.

Amusing detail...apparently Ryan turned over years of tax returns to the Romney campaign as part of the vetting process. So tax returns are a crucial part of the VP search but not when actually running for president, eh Mitt?

FYI, that graph you pulled includes state and local government spending, so that's a bit misleading.

I've never heard of the guy but when I saw a pic of him on Yahoo, my only reaction was: "Weird, I would have gone with a Cardassian over a Vorta."

It must be his hair.

I don't think Ryan is too concerned that Romney is going to run several stories ripping him for how rich he is as a result of turning over the returns.
