| #1 Posted on 5.12.11 1255.25 Reposted on: 5.12.18 1255.48 | Ron Santo was the favorite player of an old friend of mine, Deb Cherry. She, like Santo, was a Type 1 diabetic. She worked very hard raising funds and awareness for juvenile diabetes. One day I was able to win several Ron Santo rookie cards on eBay and called her to let her know one was on the way to her. She was ecstatic. The next morning her husband called me to let me know Deb had passed away overnight.
So, while I'm happy that Santo finally got in, I'm sad that neither he nor Deb got to live to see it. Promote this thread! |  | Java

He was my favorite Cub growing up, and I wore 10 in Little League due to him. It was heartbreaking to see him pass away without making his ultimate goal. I am sure he is up in Heaven whooping it up...
