Just as well I didn't watch the show. Did they bump Charlie Sheen at the last minute?

I must be a lazy TV watcher. Of all the shows that won awards tonight, the only ones I have ever, except a one time shot, seen are Big Bang Theory and Mad Men.

I tried Modern Family, but a: got no laughs when I watched it (although the creator guy cracked me up tonight) and b: didn't dig what I perceived as their agenda. I don't have premiums, so the HBO shows are mostly off my radar (although I sometimes catch them in hotel rooms). I tried The Good wife, but, I don't know, it just didn't grab me. And the rest? I don't watch anything on FX at present, so finding whatever shows are on there is something I haven't done.

Edit: add SNL to my list - make it three

There was indeed some Charlie Sheen. He wished Two and a Half Men success this upcoming season from the bottom of his heart. That was enough to remind me to set the DVR for the Roast tomorrow night before flipping permanently to the game.

If the agenda you perceive is pro-gay marriage, it's not an especially thoughtful one. It'd be like using Speedy Gonzalez to promote Mexican immigration rights.

Never saw FNL, but heard nothing about great things about the show itself and how Chandler/Britton’s chemistry carries the entire enterprise. Also, if you believe the critics, this show should’ve won several Emmys over the years, so I’m pretty happy seeing Chandler win as sort of a ‘thank you’ to FNL over the years. (Which is a lot more than other criminally-overlooked shows like The Wire ever got.)

That said, while Chandler was a deserving winner, I can’t help but feel that Jon Hamm/Hugh Laurie/Michael C. Hall saw their last, best hope at Emmy gold go out the window since next year, Cranson returns to the category AND Dustin Hoffman will surely join the party.

And yeah, Jim Parsons winning once was nice, but twice? C'mon. That was as bad as the Emmys again pretending that Modern Family was the only comedy on TV. I like the show, but geez. Next year O'Neill and Vergara will probably get their awards just to complete the set.

I am ok with Parsons winning and ecstatic about Dinklage. The rest is typical Emmy bullshit. They find a show they love like Frasier, 30 Rock, West Wing and others that they just give awards to even though they are past the expiration date. Mad Men and Modern Family fall into these categories. Rewatching season two of Sons Anarchy proves to me that they have no fucking clue when it comes to best drama and best actress in a drama, Katey Sagel FTW.

I know people probably have qualms about the highly political nature of the show, and may not like how they take highly charged stands on issues but then claim to be only a comedy show, but the show is funny and I'm happy to see them honored. Congrats, Phineas And Ferb!

I guess I don't see what the problem is with Modern Family. It's critically acclaimed and the ratings say it's popular. Did it deserve all the awards? I don't know because it's up against some shows I don't watch. I was surprised Bowen won, but the others didn't really surprise me.

I like both it and Community although there sort of seems to be some weird divide where people don't think you can like both for some reason. Sure, they're a different kind of sitcom, but both are good in their own way (MF in the "traditional family sitcom" sense and Community in the "new type of sitcom" way). I don't know if I could say one is better than the other, but MF I think is more consistent.

I only bring up Community here because I know the discussion has come down to the two at least on this board before, so I'm doing it solely for comparison purposes.

For me, I'm less upset at Community's lack of a nod than I am at the lack of acknowledgement for Parks & Recreation - which is really the best thing on television. Nick Offerman not being nominated ranks a short second to Steve Carrell not winning in my "WTF Emmy's!!?!" histrionics.

When it comes to Steve Carrell, though - this was probably his last chance to win for a show that, while long past its prime, has really paved the way for shows like MF and P&R. It's really too bad that he never won. Even more, I think the Phil Dunphy character is the most "Michael Scott"-ish character on MF.

And hey, I like Modern Family, Community and Parks & Recreation (and still The Office) - but only two of those four are absolutely-must-see-not-going-to-miss-it-will-rewatch-it-on-Hulu viewing for us these days.

My major beef is Comedic Supporting actor having FOUR of the six nominations going to Modern Family. It is bad enough when one show gets two cast members for one award.

Glad Justified got some props though.

I'm not surprised that the Emmy's are a giant ball of suck.

I am surprised, however, that apparently The Big Bang Theory is still on the air. Seriously? CBS really must not have ANYTHING.
