Wow check out her face! Well anyway she "Knows" what her mother will decide. Since I can't say her name, She was in Iowa so I will say the mother is in! This could mean bad news for Bachmann. Does she win the nomination? I say NO. Still think it will be between Rick Perry and Romney for the nomination.

Thoughts?

for many reasons, I don't think Palin runs. She has more influence, frankly, on the outside, and I think she knows she can't win. I think she'd like to rehabilitate herself, but I think she knows that she has the Quayle stigma from the last election, when she clearly was popular, but not ready for the media. I think she's ready now, but I don't think enough time has passed.

I think it's going to be, sadly, Romney unless Perry gets in there. Bachman's big among the TEA folks, me included, but she's a representative and when's the last time a Rep went from the US house to the White House? (hint: You weren't alive). And, well, she's a pure TEA ideologue, which I certainly agree with, but I am not sure that plays so well to the more traditional republicans and especially to the Independents.

Especially after I heard Obama's seeming conversion to Republican platform ideas in today's Presser. It's clear he's heading right to the middle. I wonder how many of HIS ideologues he has lost by doing Libya, keeping Gitmo open, not pulling out of the Middle East and not raising taxes.

Perry or Romney, I think. If Palin gets into the race, it certainly will get the Reps a lot of publicity and give Letterman and Leno a lot of ammo, but I think it still ends up being Perry or Romney.

Does anyone really think she can win the Presidency? She has been a running joke since the election. She quit her job as Governor, she quit her bus tour for "jury duty" and she stumbles into one controversy after another. Even with a 15% unemployment, I still think Obama beats her.

I have no doubts she could win the GOP, but how much damage will they do to her? Eventually, the we hate Obama mantra is not going to work in the primaries. They are all going to have to get in the mud against one another. Then you will see more cracks in already beaten armor for all of them.

It's amusing how a private citizen, who holds no public office and hasn't announced that she's even trying to win a nomination, gets so much attention from the haters.

"Generic Republican " is beating Obama in poll after poll and people still say the GOP will self destruct.

If the economy stays flat and unemployment keeps hovering near ten percent, a potted plant will beat Obama in 2012.

This is a ridiculous characterization of Sarah Palin. She has the right to turn down the media interviews, to get off Fox News (is she still on Fox News?) ... in essence, there's nothing "private" about her and that is by her own choice. She gets so much attention because her daughter just went on freaking television and fueled speculation that Palin would run for president. Get a clue.

Political polling is always useless, but it's *especially* useless in dealing with unidentified candidates. A similar amount of time before Bush was re-elected, in March 2003, polls showed the same: The incumbent losing to an unidentified, hypothetical opponent from the opposing leading party. Bush was, as you may know, re-elected the following year. Unfortunately, I can't find any articles about it from the time, but here's a thread on this message board where such poll showings were discussed:

Those unnamed or generic persons are useless. Once you start putting names like Palin or Bauchman or Perry those polls have Obama winning. Unemployment will be 10% for the foreseeable future regardless of who is in charge. Also, there is nothing private about Palin or tell all book family.

It seems that people want someone who stands for the ideals of the Republican party, but that candidate does not seem to exist.

All of the declared (and potential) GOP candidates appear to skew far right on issues, which would be fine if the majority of voters were Republican, but at this point it seems like the majority are becoming independent.

Moderate viewpoints will end up winning the race in 2012, and unfortunately the President looks like he's heading straight to the middle, so I don't think 2012 will be the Republicans' year.

the election is going to be a year of Obama trying to do character assassination on whoever the GOP nominee is and the GOP will be pointing out all the failures of Obama. he can't run on his record, because 90% of what he's done has been a failure. The GOP will be focussed on Obama's failures and the middle of the road voters who helped get Obama elected will have a choice to make, and I think most will turn on Obama.

I cannot wait until Michele Bachmann is FINALLY forced to release her long form birth certificate.

The election will come down to voter turnout. If the turnout is low, he's sunk. If it's high, he'll win.

Isn't that every Democrat ever? Republicans tend to have support among voters who will show up no matter what.

Yeah. I'd almost be willing to bet money on Obama - especially given the current crop of GOP candidates - I just don't know if the pounding the GOP has given "middle of the road" voters (who are just about as real as "Generic Republican") will be enough to get voters to polls.

No one ever went broke underestimating the American public... to coin a paraphrase.

I'll add voter turnout in the key states. Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Michigan, Wisconsin.... It doesn't matter if you show up in New York or South Carolina or Utah or Vermont.

    Oh, the irony.

I know its ironic
I don't particularly like anyone the GOP is trotting out. there's a lit of voters, like myself who are fed up with the GOP but still won't vote for or support any third party guys. If there was a strong libertarian candidate I think they'd get tons of support, but when the last candidate they nominated was best known as the guy who ate Borat's sister's breast qtmilk cheese, they stand no chance of Bing ton seriously.

The problem is, the Republicans aren't nominating a potted plant. They won't run a "generic Republican" because the current crop of candidates are either too moderate to survive the primaries or leave everyone outside of the base with a severe case of DO NOT WANT. If the Democrats fight fire with fire, they'll be able to expose the Republicans and win pretty handily. 2010 might've been a vote of dissatisfaction with the Democrats, but the Republicans aren't faring much better since then.

The Republicans have almost already John Kerryed the election. Everyone who comes into the race has severe baggage or is intensely unlikeable.

The Democrats should have by all rights won the second term of the younger Bush run, but they nominated a milquetoast mannequin with a harpy wife and a philandering lying idiot for a VP candidate.

Then the idiot Republicans imploded on themselves when they lobbied intensely against Clinton this last time out, underestimating Obama's appeal...while attacking their own best candidate in McCain on every talk show in the country and Fox News.

That left a barren field of nobodies and don't-wants, since any Republican that dares inch one iota out of Tea Party country faces election death by talk show firing squad.
