So, is the goal for the T'Wolves to go 4 point guards on the court with Kevin Love? Or, do they trade Love to the Globetrotters for the rights to Curly Neal so they can go 5 point guards?

Just yesterday I was joking to a coworker that they were going to cut Kevin Love and go with Nash, Rubio, Flynn, Ridnour, and Kyrie Irving and rebrand themselves the Minneapolis Globetrotters. Telfair first off the bench, carrying a bucket of confetti, of course.

Surely Nash has some kind of no-trade protection, right? He must be able to somehow protect himself from getting sent to the Timberwolves. Hell, if he's going to end up with a crappy, cold-weather team, he might as well come to Toronto for the extra endorsement dollars.

This doesn't seem as realistic to me as the Tony Parker trade rumors

I don't know if he has a no-trade clause, but he doesn't really need one. He can just make it clear that if he were traded to [insert name of undesirable team here] he would NOT re-sign once his contract expires. Which, I believe, is at the end of this season or next. That might not block every trade, but it's been said to be a sticking point for Minnesota already.

Trading with the Globetrotters would imply that the Wolves want to win. Knowing them and Kahn, they're trading to get the point guard from the Washington Generals.

While we're on the subject of the Wolves, can I ask why so much hype and hope on the future of the team is being put on Rubio? I hope he isn't a bust but considering his mediocre play back in his homeland, saying he's the next 'Pistol Pete' may be an unrealistic expectation for him to achieve even if he becomes a good NBA player.

Does this illegal pick of an obscure player, coupled with the point guard fetish, now vault Kahn past Isiah Thomas and into Matt Millen Land for worst GM's ever?

Honestly? Not really.

As hillarious as some of what Khan does, he actually has done a fairly decent job of building up some talent on the team around Kevin Love, and assuming they stay together for more than a couple years, I think they're about two years away from the playoffs.

The biggest problem the Wolves have is that it's essentially a college team. There's nobody on the team with any NBA experience really, except for Darko and Darko's only going to give you about ten minutes of effort a night.

If nothing else, Khan got the Heat to pay him for taking Michael Beasley, so that's something....

I figured this would be a thread about him being on the BS report with Simmons yesterday.

Since you mentioned it, I was just mentioning to my friend that I think the problem with Simmons is that he's become too mainstream. I don't mean that in a hipster douchebag way where I hate things that are popular. Rather, I think a big part of Bill Simmons' allure was that he wasn't part of the mainstream press, and he didn't care about who he pissed off in stating his opinion. Once he starts worrying about angering people (or putting on lame interviews where he lets them explain themselves while offering up very little of the opposition he had expressed previously), then to me he's just another sportswriter.

I'm still curious to listen to the Kahn interview, but this critique is disappointing. That said, wasn't part of the reason he founded grantland was so that he would be less beholden to his ESPN/ABC overlords and with more freedom to speak his mind? I wonder how much of this change was due to his private meeting with Isaiah Thomas in Vegas a few years ago, which wound up softening that feud.

I didn't think he let Kahn off the hook. Simmons isn't Mike Francesa and isn't going to start a Tiki Barber like throwdown. Simmons called Kahn out on some things, but Kahn surprised me ... the guy is freaking slick. Kahn's reasoning wasn't terrible for the most part and he 'Jedi Mind Tricked' Simmons a few times (although he is going to look bad when he finally fires Rambis).

If anything Kahn swung me to his side. The key is going to be to see what he does next. He has the assets now he needs to turn them into a team as well as finding a real coach. Is he going to be able to keep the right core of young guys together while mixing in the right veteran players? Or is he just going to build a fantasy basketball team? I wouldn't be shocked to see either happen.

I'm going to listen to the podcast shortly, but Simmons' footnote in his draft diary where he defends Kahn and compares him to Sam Presti, who he likes for how he's built the Thunder, acknowledged that Kahn isn't as bad as Simmons likes to make him out to be. I just think that as this thread title alludes, he's fun to hate because of his name.
