Two nights ago, I had plugged my phone into the USB cable of my laptop to charge it while I was working online. I had to go into another room, and I partially closed the laptop, It's set to turn off when the laptop is completely closed. However it was not fully closed. When I opened it back up fully, the machine had shut off. I tried to restart it, but there seems to be zero power going to the computer. No lights are on, it won't start a booting, nothing at all happens. It had been charged for two days before I did this, so I know the battery isn't dead.

Any ideas as to what may have happened? I've googled the problem but all the solutions seem to be either the mother board is fried, which I have experienced no problems with the computer, or there's something in the boot menu that's keeping it from accepting or using power.
Granted, its only a $300 Acer model 5532 from Wal Mart, but until this point I've had no problems.

Try pulling the battery out completely and plugging in the cord.

It could be a battery issue. It could be a bad cord. Do you have any way of knowing if there is power to the cord?

Did you have it on an outlet that is controlled by the light switch?

The plug isn't to a light switch. Battery out and plug in did nothing . The light that's on the power cord still has it's light on when its plugged in.

I might just have to but a new one. The warranty is out and the service quotes I've gotten are all about 2/3 the price of a new cheap model.

If anybody has any other suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

Are you sure the battery is holding a charge? Is there a batter charge indicator on the laptop?

Something I found online (similar to Guru's suggestion): Disconnect AC power and remove the main battery, hold the power button down for 15 seconds, connect AC power Only and try to power up.

I was going to mention that. Had to do it with my HP laptop once.

Okay, now when I plug the power cord into the outlet, the light on the power chord connection box will barely blink, then nothing else happens.

I wonder if the plug wasn't sending power and the battery totally died, however I think I would have gotten the "your battery is low, find a plug" message before the battery went totally dead.

I have to look and see if I have another power source before I try the stuff you suggested Leroy.
