And here's Family Guy, showing off their overblown budget again. The episode was funny enough in the first segment with Stewie going all over the place with the time machine and the stuff with Stewie and Brian outside the space-time continuum was pretty good. Then came the real plot and man, does it feel contrived! If Leonardo Da Vinci is Stewie's ancestor, then in theory, that would also make Da Vinci PETER'S ancestor, which is just silly.

Time travel makes my head hurt. And I was ready to celebrate that they brought back Bertram, who was one of the show's most underused characters and, oh gee whiz, they went and killed him off.

The first-half of the episode was good, but it felt like it went off the rails at the end...again. The funniest thing about this episode? They practiced enough restraint to NOT make a joke about CBS' "The Big Bang Theory".

Note: Skipping over 9x16, since the last episode was delayed.

I guess someone got Doctor Who season 5 on DVD. It wasn't a bad episode, but the wife and I were distracted with all the Doctor Who stuff that it wasn't that fun. The Alphabets scene was the best joke.

Maybe they should have used the time machine to go back to when Family Guy was actually good.

I actually enjoyed this episode a lot. I like Stewie / Brian episodes. I like time machine episodes. I like episodes where they still acknowledge Stewie is an evil genius and I like Bertram episodes. So plenty here for me to like.

I was even engaged enough to shout at the television 'but if he does that, the whole Universe will never exist' when Bertram revealed his plan to kill one of Stewie's ancestors to ensure Stewie never exists.

I'm not sure however, why Stewie was able to avoid being scrubbed from space time by merely stepping inside the time machine (which also should disappear if Stewie never exists). Unless of course the time machine is contained within some sort of paradox correction field. But that's pure science fiction fantasy!

I assume that Da Vinci is a maternal ancestor. Indeed if you look, Stewie, Da Vinci, Lois and Barbara all have the same nose.

Speaking of paradoxes (paradoxii?) if you go far enough back in time, isn't everyone an ancestor? I'm not sure whether the renaissance is far enough back though. I saw it on an episode of QI, so it must be true.

This episode just didn't keep my attention. They spent too much time in "explanation mode" for me.

Stewie ruining Peanut Butter Jelly Time and the subsequent look of heartbreak on Brian's face broke my heart too.

I wish the episode had just been those two traveling back and screwing with each others greatest moments.

If they did that (going back and screwing each other) it might have been one of the best ever - or at least of the past couple of seasons.
