Francisco Liriano (2-4) dropped his ERA from 9.13 to 6.61 with tonight's performance. In 95 previous games, he'd never had a complete game - and if I'd heard the commentary correctly, he'd never even gone into the 8th in a game he'd started.
Sadly, Bert Blyleven couldn't circle him as he had the game off to visit take a Hall of Fame tour.
Ironically, when you visit Frankie's Yahoo! profile, one of the story links is the one where it's rumoured that he would soon be giving up his spot in the rotation to Kevin Slowey. He's probably earned a stay at this point. Promote this thread! | | Big Bad

Nah, the commentary team was specifically referring that he'd never pitched an 8-inning away loss. Technically a "complete game" (he would've faced the home team in every inning they batted, but they wouldn't have batted in the ninth), but not recorded as such.
I will say that it was sort of hillarious that he pitched one of worst no hitters in forever (6 walks) against a guy who managed an even worse one a few years ago Edwin Jackson (who had 8, I think). | TheBucsFan

Obviously "worst" is largely a subjective thing, but according to Bill James' Game Score metric, this tied for the weakest performance by a pitcher who threw a no-hitter ever. Liriano scored 83, while Jackson last year scored 85.
The key difference, I think, is balls put in play. Jackson had more walks in his no-hitter, but he also had six strikeouts to Liriano's two. | redsoxnation

Hawk loves the Twins almost as much as he loves the White Sox, so he would have been all over this.
