Great googily moogily, I got through about half of this on the DVR and had to stop. What an utterly wretched game!

Butler Bulldogs vs. Connecticut Huskies - NCAA Tournament Game - Recap

HOUSTON -- The rims were tight, the shots weren't falling and points were at a premium -- surely one of the ugliest championships played on college basketball's biggest stage.

Ah, but for Kemba Walker and UConn, the final score was a thing of beauty.

In a game that featured 40 minutes of guts and grit, Connecticut made Butler look like the underdog it really was, winning the NCAA men's title Monday night with an old-fashioned, grinding, 53-41 beatdown of the Bulldogs.

If you want Exhibit A on how horrific the quality of the current college basketball product is, here you go! It was a fun tournament, but this game was unspeakably terrible.

The only thing sadder is knowing that the NCAA will be the only game in town next year with the NBA about to endure a lockout.

It was, I guess, a hard fought contest but ugh. I watched the NIT Final last week (daughter attending Wichita State) and that game was 100 times more entertaining. I know we bitch about the BCS for football but Connecticut, 9th in their conference, is the best team this year? The hottest in March maybe.

My high school coach will kill me and my teammates for taking 3 pointers from the half court line which everyone seem to be doing in this tournament. Yes, Bulter has a great defense and its nice to see that done in the offense first world of basketball, but you can play defense and not look like garbage on offense as well. I do feel bad for Butler since Calhoun and UConn shouldn't even be eligible for this thing. Yet, UConn earned their way to the title and proved that the regular season doesn't really matter.

I can't stand Butler, seeing as how they usually clobber my alma mater, UWGB, and everybody else in the Horizon League...but man, I was pullin' for 'em last night.

What a story it would have been. To make it all the way to the 2010 title game, BARELY lose to the Goliath of NCAA hoops, Duke...only to make it all the way back to the 2011 title game!

And then CLANG happened. Most putrid shooting I've ever seen in a college basketball game. Unthinkable from a disciplined Butler team.

Now, much to my Butler-lovin'-buddy's chagrin, they're the Buffalo Bills of college basketball.

This game emphasizes the point that 3 pointers taken 3-4 feet off the arc are only cool if they go in...when they miss badly, repeatedly, one finds themselves wondering if they even see the arc painted on the court.

It was a fun NCAA tournament. Horrid free throw shooting killed the 'Cats Saturday night, but UConn isn't as bad (or as good) as it may seem.

UConn never lost a non-conference game this season. Their 9 losses were all during conference play. The games that they did lose were to quality opponents and Kemba Walker earned the right to carry Jules Winfield's wallet.

I hated typing what I just typed. Hated it. UConn beat UK twice this year. I even despise the meaningless Maui beating too.

I hope that the NBA's next collective bargaining agreement fixes the current NCAA problem. I'd like to see guys be eligible for the draft out of HS, but if they sign a LOI, they're bound to a college for at least 2 years.

Why would that be sad? If kids stay in school this year, the Tourney will only be better next year.

I, for one, would love to see all the Heels return for another go around.
