| #1 Posted on 6.11.10 0207.05 Reposted on: 6.11.17 0210.43 | Portland Trail Blazers center Fabricio Oberto unexpectedly announced his retirement on Thursday due to a previously undiagnosed cardiac condition which was causing heart palpitations.
In the Blazers' game against the Bucks on Tuesday, Oberto experienced dizziness, which led to him getting checked out.
Signed by the Blazers a day before the current season, Oberto was a member of Argentina's 2004 Olympic gold medal team, and the starting center for the San Antonio Spurs' 2007 NBA championship team. He averaged 3.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in 336 games, roughly a third of which were starts.
I'm glad to see he's decided that his health is far more important than his basketball career. And I wish him health and continued success with the rest of his life. Promote this thread! | | redsoxnation
