I'll find a link, but after having tossed Ken Macha (Manager), Dave Duncan (Coach), and Chris Dickerson (player), Bob Davidson has completed the umpire slam by ejecting a fan from the game. Thicken your skin a little, Bob.

From the Brewers' beat writer's blog (via link above):

Hart grounds out to third. And now Davidson is having a fan ejected from the game. Amazing. The guy has an itchy trigger finger, not to mention gargantuan rabbit ears. Braun grounds out to short. Fielder and McGehee collect singles but Lopez robs Lorenzo Cain by leaping to snag his liner.

The Cards announcers on FS Midwest are giving him a hard time, too, as are the Cards' beat writers:

Davidson hasn't even leaned towards the Birds tonight. He's just been...bad.

Pity he didn't get anyone from the announcer's booth.

Lots of Twitter goodness about this here.

Lost in all this (thanks a PANTSLOAD, Bob Davidson) is that Trevor Hoffman notched his 600th career save last night...and he did it in a Brewers uniform.

Trevor Time lives!

Oh, so THAT'S (sports.espn.go.com) why...

Davidson said he decided to throw out 44-year-old Sean A. Ottow of Waukesha, Wis., in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday night because he wanted to make sure Molina wouldn't do something to escalate the situation. Davidson spoke Wednesday before the series finale.

"Molina, I thought he was going to go toward [the fan] and I said, 'I'll take care of it,'" said Davidson, who was the plate umpire. "I was going to wait until between innings and not be so obvious, but I figured after he said that, he was very intoxicated, I needed to take care of it."

Makes sense, but I wonder if he knew he was getting a reputation that night for being trigger-happy...

Umpires are like children. They should be seen and not heard. If I know an umpire by first name, it should only be because of a blown call, NOT because they like seeing their name in print or said on ESPN.

The slur was (apparently) to the effect of 'Molina, are you proud that you make your living on your knees'. Apparently, Ottow made the rounds on some local radio, and seemed like a knob.

Not to excuse it, but that comment seems fairly tame compared to the usual crap I'm exposed to at the ballpark. If umpires are ejecting people based on those kind of comments, you'd have to toss out about 15% of your paid attendance.

So instead of warning Molina not to do anything (even though he's on the field and the fan's up in the stands), he tosses the fan!?

Ruling stands. Ump = asshat.

Seems odd. You can get thrown out, as a fan, for alluding to a players sexual orientation but I've seen assholes throwing batteries at players and they don't get thrown out.

What an asshole.

Methinks the fan thought the catcher was Mikey Pizzapie Piazza ;)
