Reposted on: 9.8.17 0842.02 | Last night, the multiple World Series champion and eventual hall-of-famer Derek Jeter passed the Babe on the all-time Yankees hit list.
Derek Jeter who after last night, is 39th all time in MLB history in hits will move up a few spots by the season's end and will wait next season to hit the illustrious 3,000 hit milestone and move up further more on the all-time hits list.

My mistake; still quite an accomplishment to pass the Babe on the all-time hits list.
And as for any question Jeter being a first ballot hall-of-famer, he will get in no problem on his first try. Not also has Jeter been the model of consistency for about 15 years, but Jeter has been a model sports figure with no links to steroids or other substances what-so-ever and has been the model sports figure as he has not been linked to any on or off the field controversy.
Derek Jeter has been the best clutch hitter in baseball for as long as he has been playing and to go on top of that, he has 5 World Series rings. Gwynn and Ripken got in no problem and stats-wise, Jeter has similar numbers and more rings. In terms of respect, consistency and sportsmanship, he resembles Ripken and Gwynn who were class acts all the way into Cooperstown. | Mr. Boffo

Agree to disagree. Best measure of so called clutch hitting I'm aware of is Win Probability Added, which measures how much a player's at bats add to his team's chance of winning the game. For instance, Jeter's highest WPA in any one game is April 11, 2006, when he came to the plate in the bottom of the 8th inning with two outs, two men on base, and the Yankees down 8-7. He hit a 3 run home run and the Yankees won the game. His WPA on that play was .62, because before that AB the Yankees had a 30% chance of winning, and after it they had a 92% chance of winning. That's a clutch hit by any measure.
And Jeter is 12th among active players in career WPA. Hardly the best clutch hitter since he's been in the league. And he'd be even lower because it's a cumulative stat, and he's third among active players in plate appearances. All-time, Jeter is 72nd.

He turned how many double plays with Jason Giambi covering first? I do have to agree that he isn't the most talented defensive presence on his team, let alone in his own infield. He's not the best defensive shortstop in baseball, nor is he the best hitting shortstop, but for my money the only other guy at his position that could possibly beat him out as best all around is Rollins.

This seems an odd way to tout Jeter's defensive prowess. In Derek Jeter's world all he needs the 1B to do is lumber to first and catch the ball. It's not like he was playing second and had to cover extra ground because of Giambi's limit range at first. | TheOldMan
