Orlando has done well and now has gone 8-0 in the playoffs. However, Orlando will either face Boston or Cleveland before they can think about flying to another trip to the Finals. Boston or Cleveland will be a true test to this Orlando team that won 59 games this season and a team that has had momentum at the end of the season and into the playoffs.
And with Atlanta again, they did choke and not put up a good as fight as I thought they would have or should have, but again, Orlando has been firing on all cylinders and have been very tough to beat.
I have nothing against Atlanta and they are more than capable of putting on another 50+ win season next year and if anything, this year should be motivation for next season. | redsoxnation

Coach is probably gone because ownership has wanted to dump him for years. Joe Johnson is probably gone because he'll get max money elsewhere. Bibby will be a year older and Crawford won't be as lethal if he is a starter rather than a 6th man. Better chance of them regressing than progressing next season. | StingArmy

Everyone else has come along quite nicely the past few years, and no matter what anyone tries to tell me I'd rather have Josh Smith or Al Horford (or Jamal Crawford) than Joe Johnson. If we regress next year, it won't be because of losing Joe.
Mike Woodson is probably gone like you said, and Bibby is indeed going to be a year older. I'm hoping we can bring in another top-level guard to replace Joe (assuming he leaves, which I think is a safe bet) so that Jamal doesn't have to start. I would giggle myself silly if we got Dwyane Wade, but nobody is suggesting that's even a remote possibility. Then again, I'm sure he's gotten at least a TINY bit envious watching us up close the past couple of years.
And you know, I believe we still have matching rights on Josh Childress. Ha!

Good point but this Atlanta team has steadily improved the last 5 or so seasons and increasing their wins every season so this is unfortunate for the Hawks if and perhaps when the coach is gone. I think the Hawks do need a true guard to help be the catalyst for this team next season but I guess time will only tell soon enough to see if the Hawks can maintain consistency or if this team will have only celebrated the last few years getting into the playoffs. | The Game

I hope Phoenix can be a tougher challenge and provide a bigger threat to LA than Utah than in the semi's. LA, like Orlando, is geared up and firing on all cylinders as a team. The Lakers looked poised and ready to repeat while Orlando is looking to gain some revenge and bring Orlando its first title.
I think Orlando will have a tougher time against either Cleveland or Boston. | CajunMan

Agree, Utah fans acting like Philly fans over one player was pretty lame and the heckling over his daughter was very harsh. If you should blame anyone it should be the owner/GM of the Jazz for letting Fisher out of his contract. | StingArmy

While I still think Atlanta fans (and then after them, maybe Miami fans) are the least SUPPORTIVE fans in the country, I'm with you on Utah fans. What the hell is wrong with these people? I only heard about the beef some of them have with Derek Fisher a couple of days ago, I wonder how long this has been going on.
Are there any Ws out there who are also Jazz fans? If so, any of you care to explain/defend what's going on here? To us outsiders it looks completely and utterly classless and bitchy on the part of the Utah fanbase.

I don't find this kind of thing surprising at all.
My parents retired to Utah from SoCal a few years ago (I get out there a couple of times a year), and I'll happily throw the state under the bus. A decent portion of the state's natives (NOT ALL) with whom I've interacted are very rude and discourteous. That isn't to say that I haven't had positive experiences, either - but, generally speaking, if I am interacting with a local then I expect to be treated rudely.
And I have an EXCELLENT story about eating at a nearly-empty Chili's in Provo with a friend of mine, who happens to be black and had long dreadlocks at the time, as we were heading to conference in Moab. If they could have seated us INSIDE the kitchen, they would have...
Did I mention the state scenery is absolutely GORGEOUS?

The question was why are the fans being so bitchy about it if everyone knew before he was released that he'd likely be going back to the Lakers since that's where his family and many of his daughter's doctors were. I think the answer is simply that a lot of fans are just under-informed idiots and there's nothing you'll ever be able to do about that.

THE JOHN TERRY/WAYNE BRIDGE AWARD FOR "MOST UNCOMFORTABLY BITTER SUBPLOT"
To Jazz fans for their continuing enmity toward Derek Fisher, who asked for his release from Utah three summers ago so he could play in an NBA city that had a hospital with an advanced eye surgery wing for his cancer-stricken daughter. He signed with the Lakers … who knocked Utah out of the playoffs in 2008, '09, and now '10. Jazz fans take this personally -- even booing him during games -- and conveniently forget that Utah was happy to let Fisher go in 2007 (not only was he overpaid as a backup, but it needed the cap relief for Deron Williams' extension) and wasn't worried about the Lakers contending at the time (since they finished 42-40 and seemed headed for a Kobe trade). A few months later, Chris Wallace gift-wrapped Pau Gasol to Los Angeles and everything changed. Not Fisher's fault. I am all for booing Lakers players and fostering random vendettas against them, but not like this.
See, here's what you get when you boo Fisher, Utah fans …
1. Bad karma. Goes without saying.
2. You just look stupid. Like you have no idea what actually happened. Fisher didn't betray you by jumping to a conference rival. The Lakers were floundering at the time.
3. You bristle every time a media member calls you the most (fill in one: bitter/angry/hostile/vicious) fans in the NBA. This illogical Fisher vendetta helps you on this front … how?
My advice as a neutral party: Let the Fisher thing go. It's creepy and ill-conceived.
Probably one of the best arguments against Utah, as I'm certain Simmons is one of the few to point out that the Jazz were more than willing to dump Fisher at the time.
Re: Cleveland...
And now the talk begins about this being LeBron's last home game. This isn't like Cleveland coming back to win Games 6 and 7 against Detroit a few years ago. If Cleveland wins this series in the face of the inevitable "Is this LeBron's last game as a Cav?" media hoopla, I'll eat my hat. | The Game

It seems that LeBron is not pushing himself 110% like an MVP should (Charles Barkley said he believes LeBron is still the best player in the world but he said he did not see the aggressiveness of an MVP that should have came in a very important game 5).
3rd year pro Rajon Rondo has played his heart out and if Cleveland (or LeBron) don't play with some tenacity in game 6, Boston could be heading to Orlando for the conference finals.
I thought Cleveland was the favorite at the beginning of the playoffs but based on team-ball and everything, Orlando right now is the favorite and Boston has returned to a championship caliber team at exactly the right time. Cleveland may be the Eastern Conference's version of the Dallas Mavs right now and be a regular season powerhouse but choke in the playoffs. It is definitely a do-or-die situation not just for Cleveland in the playoffs but perhaps some will question LeBron's ability to help lead his team through the playoffs (even though a lot of time his leadership is hardly ever questioned). |
