Reposted on: 19.11.16 1337.36 | Probably a bit early in the season to be talking too much about the 2010 All-Star Game, but as I'm just about to submit my ballot, I thought I'd review it here, and open a thread for anyone who wishes to share theirs.
My general rule is to vote for whomever my favorite players are on the ballot (I've been a bit of a homer in the past, but not so much this year with the All-Star ballot), and the teams' records really count for a lot with me, too. I also try to spread some votes around to the players that don't often get starting votes for these games.
Western Conference
Forwards: Tim Duncan (SA); Kevin Durant (OKC)
Duncan is Duncan, enough said. (And, I know, he'll get voted as a starter with or without my help). But the Thunder are off to a surprisingly strong start, absolutely demolishing the pace they were at this time last year, and part of that is due to Durant, averaging 27.1 PPG and 7.2 RPG.
Guards: Brandon Roy (POR); Steve Nash (PHX)
Roy's the star player on a young, hungry team that'll be hard to beat come playoff time. Two-time MVP Nash is defying those who say he's getting too old, and proving thus far that the Suns' backslide last year was a minor hitch, thanks to the Shaq experiment.
Center: Andrew Bynum (LAL)
It takes a lot for me to push the button and give an All-Star vote to the Lakers (whom I dislike), but Bynum stands out against all the rest to me. (I was going to give it to Al Jefferson of Minnesota, but I think he just got injured, and his team's absolutely terrible.)
Eastern Conference
Forwards: Danny Granger (IND); Andre Iguodala (PHI)
Granger's my homer pick this year, but in addition to staying on the same pace as last year, he's shown improved leadership skills, and has the Pacers winning for the time being. Keep it up, Danny! Iguodala's been underappreciated for awhile now, so I give him some love here.
Guards: Joe Johnson (ATL); Brandon Jennings (MIL: write-in vote)
Johnson is on a tear as the Hawks have soured to the top of everyone's NBA Power Rankings. And how can you not vote for Brandon Jennings, who's taken the league absolutely by storm and made the nine teams that passed on him in the 2009 draft look pretty stupid?
Center: Brook Lopez (NJ)
I know, Dwight Howard of the Magic is infinitely more deserving.
