Apparently having decided there isn't a whole hell of a lot else they can do with him, the New York Knicks have reportedly agreed to buy out exiled point guard Stephon Marbury, who's expected to sign with the Knicks' Atlantic Division rivals, and defending NBA champions, the Boston Celtics.

Sooooo... assuming Marbury behaves himself, and proves he can play in the Celtics' system without being a disruption (and you know what they say about assuming), the Knicks shot themselves in the foot pretty good on this one. Of course, if his standard pattern of behavior continues, this whole thing'll just backfire on the Celtics.

Now if the Pacers can just find a way to get rid of Jamaal Tinsley...

I don't know what I hate more: The Celtics going after Marbury, or the fact that because of the composition of the Celtics bench it might make sense to go after Marbury.

In his first game with the Boston Celtics, Stephon Marbury-- wearing #8 (because his usual #3 is retired for Dennis Johnson, and the #33 he wore two years in New Jersey is retired for Larry Bird), scored eight points and contributed two assists to the cause, including six of those points during a key 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter, as the Celtics defeated the Pacers at Boston Garden, 104-99.

He had signed his contract earlier in the day, and had about an hour of practice with his new team before putting on the uniform for the first time.

Not bad, especially considering he hadn't played in an NBA game since January 11 of last year.
