According to pwinsider.com and 411wrestling.com, Paul Wight has no plans to return to wrestling or pursue a career in acting. Instead, he has chosen a rather strange journey into the world of pro boxing. He is trying to cut weight, and claims he will set the boxing world on fire like Mike Tyson did some 20 years ago.

Might not ever be any good at it but you gotta admit it would sure be hard to find another boxer that would have more reach than he does And most would have to jump up to hit him with a good upper cut... Hehehe some would have to hit high to keep them "above the belt" LOL!!!

If he does indeed go that direction I'll wish him luck. I always thought that WWE never used him well. Heck here is a very large guy who could actually use werstling holds, heck I ever saw him dropkick someone now and then.

Or some crossover thing against Bob Sapp.

Anyways, small chance he will succeed in anything other than being a special atraction.

That's the only good news in this post. Everything else: lol.

Wasn't one of the reasons he was always "misused" or "under-pushed" by the WWE was because he would never drop weight or get motivated?

They can always set him up for a fight against Nikolai Valuev, who stands 7' and weighs about 330. Sure, Valuev was 45-0 before losing for the first time, but he's incredibly slow and if Wight has any talent whatsoever, he'll take a decision...

I'm picturing Little Mac reaching as far as his little arms will go in order to uppercut Bald Bull.

That's probably what he's going for, but if it were THAT easy Valuev would've lost before he did.

Huh, if I were going to compare my future to someone else's, Mike Tyson probably wouldn't be the guy.

Yeah, Valuev was the guy I thought of immediately. If a stiff like that can be WBA Heavyweight Champion, then Big Show has a chance, at least. He's actually pretty nimble for a guy his size.

Someone in boxing is desperate to make money with him there instead of MMA groups. Seems like he'd be better suited for MMA as the matches would be much shorter if he was successful. I don't think he has the speed to launch a sudden KO blow nor does he have the agility to bend low enough to work the body of someone of average height.

I can't see how you can mesh those 2 arguments.
If he lacks agility and flexibility etc, MMA is the LAST place for him.
Sure, he could win fights on size/power alone, but against anyone with experience and talent, he'd get submitted.
If he does make the move, boxing is the place he could get hurt the least, so it makes sense from that POV.
As a boxer he'd get body punched into submission by any decent opponent anyway.

Valuev would knock him silly.

Wight will never have enough wind to take a ten or twelve round decision, so he will have to knock everyone out. The same people who "found" opponents for Mark Gastineau could surely find some tomato cans for Wight, then he'll get his ass handed to him be someone who can actually fight.

Sad, really.

Speaking of cans, how exactly did Valuev rack up so many victories? And what happened to Valuev once he fought somebody who could actually fight? Just curious...

Check the records of everyone Valuev faced since 2004. Not bad at all, especially given the garbage fights in boxing these days.

Valuev isn't Joe Louis, but Wight wouldn't be Jerry Lewis.

Thanks for this thread, it's the first wrestling related story that has cheered me up over the last 10 days!

Good luck to Paul Wight on this one, it will be interesting to see how he gets on...

I think you can get away with being slow if you've got enough power for a while. Hell George Foreman was incredibly slow with his hands when he made his comeback, but there was so much power in there it didn't matter much. Just follow his model of leaning on guys, using all that weight, and pound away.

As someone else said, his problem will be his not being in shape to box. I doubt he can get his body ready for that.

Actually, Big George's hand speed was still there when he came back, he just couldn't really throw anything besides a 1-2 in combination, and just about everything else about him WAS slow. I just watched Foreman-Holyfield the other night and I was really impressed with George's handspeed, considering how old he was.

(That, and, wow Holyfield was a specimen back in the day.)
