Can some one from the Carolina's tell me what they are saying about this up there? Our media here in New Orleans feels its a done deal that the Hornets will move to the New Orleans Arena next year.

Well i'm not in Carolina, but I think it's pretty much a done deal everywhere, atleast that's what I hear every single NBA analyst that comes on Sportscenter, NBA Tonight, The Tony Kornheiser show, The Dan Patrick show, and All Night with Todd Wright.

I want to know exactly what happened though, they were selling out like crazy the first couple of years, but then again most of their star players kept leaving.

Will they petition to get the Jazz name back from Utah? Or will they be required to keep the Hornets name (like the Memphis Grizzlies - which makes as much sense as the Utah Jazz)?

I read many years ago a great suggestion that LA and Utah should change names. After all, LA Jazz and Utah Lakers make a lot more sense than the real names.

Here in Tidewater/Hampton Roads (one of the other alleged candidates), New Orleans seems like a done deal. They already have an arena built (points over here and L'ville) and will only change The Hornets $1 rent.

Getting the JAZZ name back would be nice but would have a price tag!

I don't think that'll happen, really. When the New Orleans Jazz moved to Utah there was talk of getting the name changed, but that didn't happen. Now Utah Jazz sounds practically natural.

As for the Hornets. I've heard New Orleans is a possibility, but I wasn't aware it was a done deal. I've also heard reports of them trying to move to Louisville and Norfolk.

Kentucky Colonels? Playing in the KFC Bucket? Perish the thought.

My parents, who were both born in VA, would probably mark out at the possibility of the Hornets moving to Norfolk. Maybe they'd become the Virginia Squires?

Anyhoo. If the Hornets can't get the Jazz name (and they *won't*, mark my words), I think a good name for the team would be the Crawfish or the Cajuns.

Anyone checked out CNNSI.com recently? They seem to be of the opinion that if the Hornets keep playing the way they have been, no city will want them.

Apparently, they forgot how bad the Vancouver Grizzlies were for many years before moving to Memphis. And they're still bad, of course.

And that, as they say, is that.

Certainly looks like a done deal from all the media reports on-line today - good thing Anthony Mason is gone, can you imagine him loose on Bourbon Street.

Nobody gets stuck with a name - they just have to petition the league and then go through a waiting period and then make all the marketing changes - too much is usually tied up in the previous nickname to warrant the change - though think of all the new gear you could sell to the RAP & Hip Hop community

New Orleans Brass is already taken (ECHL) and I think the minor league baseball team is the Zephyrs (once removed from Denver)

Wow, that's pretty big news. It makes sense when you see the Hornets games and even the front row seats are empty.

I thought the Memphis team was going to change their name to the Memphis Express and play in FedEx Arena or something. And I like the Kentucky Colonels, in the KFC Bucket. That would be pretty funny for about a season or two.

Shit, if any team needs to move, it'd be the freaking Atlanta Hawks.

I remember one year they were playing Michael Jordan's Bulls in a second-round playoff series and they still couldn't fill up their arena. Hawks fans suck, man, I can't imagine how much money they must be losing.

But I have never once heard anything about the Atlanta Hawks wanting to move (for... what, the fourth time in their NBA history?) Why not? Why not move the Hawks away from Atlanta and give 'em to... I don't know, Las Vegas or someplace? They simply can't be making a profitable business...

...can they?

None of the Atlanta teams do very well in attendance and they all have fairly new stadiums. The Falcons and Hawks are just horrible and the Braves, well a team that wins the division 10 straight years should be bring in more people than they do. I guess they're just all bored of winning, maybe they should lose a few years and then come back. I would be all for that!

Are the Hornets getting new ownership or just moving the team? Because if they have the same owner then moving the team won't help. The owner is the reason they are so unpopular now. He's gotten rid of some pretty good players over the years: Alonzo Mourning, Larry Johnson (before injuries), Glen Rice, Eddie Jones, Del Curry (a good sixth man), Mason (averaged a double double)

Here's a fact for you, before re-signing Jamal Mashburn last year, the Hornets have let the past TWENTY SEVEN free agents go without attempting to sign them.

I wouldn't bet on the Hornets moving yet. It seems the NBA isn't thrilled with New Orleans (not big enough and not enough possible corporate dollars). Plus, they upped the "relocation" fee to $100 million. I have a feeling that in the end, they will find some new local ownership in Charlotte and convince Shinn to sell out.

The last twenty-seven free agents before Mashburn? Damn! And I thought the Clippers' Donald Sterling was bad about that kind of thing.

Well Java, 6,000 season tickets sold in 48 hours, and the Memphis owner said that he as well as 10 other owners he knew were voting for the move and would back up the Hornets owners!

Stern may have no choice this time!

I'm hearing the Orlando Magic want to move now too? They're not doing that bad are they?? I mean as far as making money and having attendance and stuff. I know they've underachieved as far as how good the team is supposed to be.

I wasn't saying the people of New Orleans wouldn't support the team, but that the league has a problem with the lack of potential corporate (read: Luxury Suites) that are in New Orleans. Remember, Charlotte led the league in attendance their first 4-5 years. It was the ownership that alienated the fans, and the ownership won't change just because the franchise moves. I can relate to this, as I live in Phoenix and we got the Cardinals from St. Louis. Getting the team was great, unfortunately, Bill Bidwell came with them. They still don't have a clue....

What was the mood like concerning the potential move in Louisiana? Where would the team play?

Louisville was so split on whether or not they even wanted to build a new arena, much less entice an NBA team to come. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing us build a downtown arena that would be used by the Cardinals (somewhat because Pitino is against it - eg) and a future NBA team. I'm just not sure I'd want the Hornets. They led the league in attendance for quite a few years when they were just good to mediocre and they couldn't make money? I doubt it would be too long before they would be squawking about needing updates to whatever new arena we would have built.

Honestly, I thought they would be moving to St. Louis. They have a new faciltity there so they wouldn't have to wait a year or two for the luxury box money to roll in, but I guess having to cut the arena's owner in on the team was too much of a drawback. Plus, the town is already rabid about the Rams and their beloved Cardinals. Might not have been much attention left.

I don't know the Norfolk area and how large or small it is or their arena situation, so I had no idea about that one.

Louisiana came in late and seemed to take it right out from everyone else's nose.

Kentucky Colonels would have been neat to see, but I agree about the Bucket being a bit of a bad joke.

If they do end up going to the Big Easy good luck. Maybe we'll have our shit together next time.

Why not just have NO home teams, just pick some cities around the world where these teams can play from game to game, every game they're in a different city, sort of like how the WWF travels.

Java,

Goto this website and check out the number of lux suites New Orleans Arena has, http://www.neworleansarena.com

it meets NBA standards!

Also Stern was on ESPNNEWS interview where he said that he has lost patience for Charlotte and that time is running out for Charlotte.
