For quite awhile my favorite Broadway musicals were "Cats", "Tommy", "The Producers" and "Mamma Mia". But ever since a couple weeks ago, my new number one favorite is definitely "Wicked". Just a absolutely great show in every way possible. I would say that the audience response was the loudest of any show I've been to.

Going against EVERYTHING you people may know about me (...or think you do!), I'm gonna say JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR.

What is NOT to love about that show!

The music is practicly timeless, you could be watching it 50 years from now and the rockin' guitar and drum beats will still sound as fresh as if it were written recently.

The story, while 'heavy handed' really puts everything into a different perspective then what you would normally hear. (Even though there has recently been 'rediscovered' a lost book of the bible called The Gospel Of Judas, which just might make him out NOT to be the 'ultimate bad guy' as he's been portrayed through out the ages.)

Seriously, this show kicks ass! It's a musical for people who normally HATE musicals.

While I am partial to opera, I really like Cats and Les Miserables.

Without a doubt, it's Man of La Mancha. Of course, you really can't go wrong with either Fiddler on the Roof or JC Superstar.

I'm with Cerebus. I love Superstar. I've never seen it on Broadway, but I have seen it performed as well as the PBS TV version and the original album, of course.

Best musical that I actually saw on Broadway? I guess the revival of Guys And Dolls with Nathan Lane and such. Rent was a great time as well.

I've failed to watch anything on broadway so my favorite musical that has been on broadway at some point...

Fiddler on the Roof- absolutely amazing.

Cabaret-Also amazing, if not on story alone.

Godspell- This now has a place in my heart. I recently was in our community theatre production and the music just speaks to you, christian or not.

My secret is out.

Growing up I really liked Les Miz, but my first big big musical I saw was a touring production of "Man of La Mancha" with Hal Linden. It was amazing. Then again, I was twelve, but I bet it was pretty good were I to see it today.

*Hated* "Phantom" and haven't seen much since.

But playing Jesus in "Godspell" was a pretty big deal then, and I still get to hear about it from my mother over ten years later.

(I was better as Fagin in "Oliver", and she never talks about THAT one...)

And I was afraid that I was the only one. I was very dissappointed when I first saw it.

Even though I might not use "hated" to describe it, to me it was a almost boring show with slow and uninteresting music....but the special effects makes the show appear better than it really is.

Without the special effects I would have given Phantom a "D" grade. But because of the effects I would give the show a "C" grade.

P.S. Really can't see the love for "Jesus Christ Superstar". That was the only show that I really wanted to leave at intermission. I would definitely put that show on my "was very dissappointed list" right along with "Movin Out" and "Aida".

I could have answered this and the "most shame inducing CD you own" question at one time.

I know most of Phantom's songs by heart. And they make me happy to listen to.

Never seen one. I've never had the opportunity, really. If I ever did have the chance, I would like to see "Spamalot" though.

Does it only count if you've seen it on Broadway? If so, the only Broadway show I've ever seen was Spamalot last May. My gut hurt, I was laughing so much. Just brilliant.

The only other stage shows I've seen (in Toronto) were Mamma Mia and The Who's Tommy. Mamma Mia was a lot of fun, we were all dancing in the aisles.

Oh wait! I've also seen....OBA OBA, the Brazilian dance revue!

(image removed)

I spent half the show wiping drool away from the side of my mouth.

Favorite Music: Jerome Kern's Showboat
The 1936 film with Paul Robeson is about as good as it gets.

Favorite Show: Guys and Dolls
The Sinatra film version. Sinatra, Brando and the music of Frank Loesser combine for the most fun for me.

Favorite actually seen on Broadway: Damn Yankees
When my folks came to visit my brother and I in NYC, we took them to see this. Bebe Neuwirth was incredible as Lola. I was so suprised at how immensely talented she is. She's an excellent singer and dancer and was screaming hot in the fishnet stockings!
