Y'know, it's funny ... when I first saw the "incident" between Paul Pierce and Jamaal Tinsley, I wanted Paul kicked out of the league for pulling one of the most idiotic stunts in NBA playoff history; he was fouled with only a couple seconds left and the Celts up one, with a chance at two free throws and sending this series back home to Boston (of course, more rational thinkers would have reminded me at the time that even if he had made both free throws, Indiana still could've gotten a three-point shot off to send the game into overtime anyway). Instead, he - apparently - gives a cheap shot to Jamaal Tinsley that earns him his second technical of the game and a chance for the Pacers to steal Game Six and the series right out of our hands.
However, after repeated viewings of the "incident" from several angles, I've mellowed quite considerably ... Upon further review, Tinsley goes for the foul to stop the clock but ALSO lands a blow to the side of Paul's head (I'm not saying it was an intentional punch or anything, but it was there). This apparently scratches up the side of Paul's face and/or his ear, so he uses his left arm to push Jamaal away (no elbow or retaliatory fisticuffs, just a push). Tinsley then takes the opportunity to hit the deck as if he'd been shot dead, daring the refs to call another "T" on Pierce (which they do).
Now, I'm not trying to defend Paul's actions here - he was baited by Tinsley into reacting, and he should have kept his head and been above that ... instead, he took the bait and got what he deserved. However, the end result was not nearly as bad as I had first made it out to be while watching it live.
Anyway, the Celts ended up winning the game so it doesn't really matter (and Paul's little bandage job during the post-game press conference was just a hilarious bit of comedy to win me back on his side) ... I'm just curious as to how non-Celtics fans (and non-Pacers fans, since I already KNOW how they'll react) are reading the latest installment of this strange series via the morning highlights on SportsCenter. Fill me in.

I thought it was a brilliant strategy by Tinsley-- one that probably wouldn't even have worked under most circumstances. Foul Pierce a little hard, and at the very least all that'll happen is he'll shoot two free throws. But if he takes the bait and retaliates, react as if you've been run over by a semi truck, and there's a pretty good chance he'll get his second technical.
