The Heat's first-half point total was five less than Miami scored at Memphis on Friday night -- the previous season-worst. The 10 second-quarter points was one fewer than Miami got in the fourth against Dallas on Nov. 11. And the 31.7 percent effort from the floor matched the Heat's one-half worst this year.
The Heat's previous low-scoring effort was 77, also against Detroit on Nov. 26.

Some team in the playoffs should sacrafice someone on the end of the bench to see if he responds to a punch. At worst, a team loses someone who isn't a key component anyway. At best, Shaq gets tossed and suspended. | JoshMann

I think if Miami hadn't already locked up the East, Shaq would have played today. But as it is they're giving him as much time as he needs to recover from his virus simply because they can. Which is fine by me. All I want right now is for Miami to be in one piece when the playoffs start. | bradbice

That is true but why did they miss all those shots? Why did Detroit miss all their shots? It was a defensive-minded game and both teams were doing great and creating tough shots for the opposition. And Detroit was leading by 20 at one point before Miami made their 4th quarter comeback. And you know you can't go by a final score to determine how a basketball game went what with fouls and all.

I'll agree wholeheartedly on that one. i odn't want to see anyone out injured, whether it helps my guys out or not. May the best, full, healthy team win. | JoshMann

Not to say that both teams weren't playing some good defense, but it is a different, less-organized offense when just Shaq is out of the game, much less when Shaq is out and Wade is sitting for extended periods of time-- plus with the fouls Wade never got into the flow yesterday.
Damon Jones is usually the one whose game suffers the most without Shaq. His open looks decrease and he gets a sudden propensity for bad shot selection. Haslem suffers as well, because he's not getting that open 15-footer he usually gets with Shaq commanding double-teams in the box.
As for Mourning, he looked rusty from not playing extended minutes most of the season, particularly when it came to his hands. He was having a ton of difficulty catching passes all day.
And you know you can't go by a final score to determine how a basketball game went what with fouls and all.
Miami had cut it to 4 with 7 minutes left in spite of everything but in the end Detroit was getting better scoring chances and pulled it out, period. If I'm concerned about anything vs Detroit in the playoffs, it's their quantity of post players and that Hamilton and Prince create serious matchup problems.

Hey, that's a GREAT idea! And if that doesn't work, maybe they can put in a goon to intentionally foul him as hard as possible! After all, it worked for Temple.
Come on, man. I hope you're not being serious. Look at the beating that Shaq receives on a regular basis without reacting. You honestly think that taking a punch at him is going to motivate him to get tossed? And you honestly think that an NBA team, despite the motivation to win at all costs, is going to do something that stupid? The league would drop the hammer on them like you've never seen if the 12th man suddenly gets into a game and just "happens" to "accidentally" throw a punch at Shaq. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
