The New Orleans Hornets have traded guard Baron Davis to the Golden State Warriors for Dale Davis and Speedy Claxton, ESPN has learned.
Baron Davis, who returned to the Hornets' lineup Wednesday in a home loss to Seattle, appeared in only 17 of New Orleans' first 53 games because of back, heel and ankle ailments.
The former UCLA star would relish a move to his home state, sources told Stein, where Davis would be paired with Jason Richardson in a potentially high-scoring backcourt.
Baron Davis is averaging 18.9 points and 7.2 assists per game for New Orleans.

Poor Baron. I know he wanted to go back to Cali but... damn.

ON-TOPIC: I think this gives Golden State the best drive-dish-and-shoot offense in the NBA if they allow themselves to play that way. And the Hornets gave him away for a veteran and a lesser player at the same position.

But still, all we got back is Dale Davis (read: cap room) and Speedy Claxton (isn't New Orleans building with Dickau at PG?)... huh. Sucks how far he's fallen, but not entirely unexpected. | Blindsight

Hey, they're five wins better! Even if their record's 16-38.
Look on the bright side, this gives Golden State a chance to finally, finally be the third best team in California. | drjayphd

The Warriors are pretty much stuck with this nucleus for a while now, thanks to the big contracts that they have now (Baron, Foyle, Fisher, Richardson, Murphy)... unless they're able to get a decent return for somebody like JRich or Dunleavy in the offseason. | TigerFan55

| #11 Posted on 28.2.05 2254.51 Reposted on: 28.2.12 2259.01 | I go to every Hornets home game, and have talked to some of the Hornet announcers about this deal. This was a deal that had to be done. The Hornets didn't get enough in return for him, but it would have been really hard to get a player of equal ability to BD. They should have tried to get a 1st round pick from Golden State, ESPECIALLY since they had three first rounders this year. This deal came down to a battle of egos. Baron ran all over Tim Floyd last year and basically ran the team. When Floyd was fired out of sheer incompetence at the end of last season, Baron was asked who he would like to have coach. He was consulted all throughout the process and gave the OK when they hired Byron Scott. He plays a couple of games, gets hurt and then decides he doesn't want to play. He and Byron didn't get along after that, as Baron decided to be immature for the rest of the season, as I would assume he didn't judge Byron Scott to be the coach he turned out to be. This deal was made to get rid of a "locker room cancer" and to clear a ton of cap space to do something in the off season. They're going to build the team around J.R. Smith, and hopefully they can get a decent swing man to fill the team out. They'll be terrible next year as well, but in 06-07, they shouldn't stink as bad.
OFF TOPIC --- Blindsight...You're the only other W from New Orleans I've ever seen..It's great to see someone else from here posting, I always thought I was the only one. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
