The Hawks Thursday sent Antoine Walker back to the Celtics in return for Gary Payton, Michael Stewart and Tom Gugliotta, league sources told ESPN Insider Chad Ford.
=================================== I cannot believe Ainge actually brought this bum back to Boston. Cap relief or not. And GP was shipped to Atlanta. He's gonna LOVE that.

Of course, he was a total non-factor during the finals last year, so this is about as good a karmic punishment as I could ask for. | Keeper

I'm listening to Simmons right now on the radio and he doesn't seem too negative about the deal. It actually comes across as he likes it. I think one of the reasons is that he thinks this deal means less minutes for Blount.
I'd say the callers on 1510 here in MA are about 70% to 30% positive about the deal. One of the main points that are being talked about to be how the deal will help Paul Pierce.
I'm not a huge Celtics fan so I really don't know if this is a good deal for them or not. I'll have to wait and see.

Fox Sports New England just said Payton was bought out by Atlanta and is now a FA. | Kawshen

Veteran point guard Gary Payton has verbally agreed to rejoin the Celtics, according to executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge. Payton was dealt to Atlanta Feb. 24 in the Antoine Walker trade and waived by the Hawks Tuesday. He clears waivers tomorrow, when the Celtics plan to reacquire him.
"It looks good," said Ainge last night after Boston's 104-101 win over the Lakers. "He can't actually sign the paperwork until [tomorrow], so it's not officially done, but we're expecting him back." Boston Globe
Payton was in Boston yesterday but did not attend last night's game. There was some discussion among the Celtics ownership about whether bringing back Payton was the right move, with rookie Delonte West continuing to play exceptionally. But in the end, Payton's experience and his positive attitude while he was with the club was too tempting to overlook | pieman

West looked really pretty bad last night. Five points on 2 for 9 shooting, a couple rebounds and four assists in 26 minutes. He looked worse than that though. Some of the seven misses were bricks. He probably felt the pressure of Payton moving his stuff back into his locker. | Jaguar
