Best Buy was out, but Target had quite a few copies when we went looking for Mr. Show Season 4 yesterday. Of course, (standard snooty laserdisc owner comment here)

My indy promotOR has done extensive research on Green Bay-area prices, and found these:

K-Mart $39.99
Wal-Mart $43
Target $45

Either Wal-Mart or Target sells 'em comes with a swell magazine...but I forget which.

Spaceman Spiff, you breakin' down and getting these yet?

Already got them. Walked into Wal*Mart Tuesday night, asked the guy in the electronics dept. if they had any left, and he pulled a copy out of a box behind the counter. He did ask if I wanted widescreen or full-screen, though. I had to stifle a laugh before telling him widescreen.

Haven't had a chance to watch any of them yet. Hopefully this weekend.

$41.99 seems to be the sale price everywhere. That price seems to be the lowest anyone can go without losing money.

We had over 500 pieces of both WS & PS at Best Buy where I work PT. As of last night (Wednesday) 8 copies of PS left.

Anyone 'hear' that there are audio problems? I had a few customers last night say the audio goes out sometimes due to when they laid the commentary track it f'd up the regular audio with or without the commentary track on.

I got mine today too. Dont know what all the griping about Wal Mart is, they had plenty in stock, and had both Wide and full screen.

I have only watched the BONUS DVD, and it is awesome. The screen tests with Kurt Russell? Captain Ron playing Han Solo? Its surreal! LOL!

Gotta work this weekend, but monday night is gonna be STAR WARS NIGHT! I cant wait to sit and watch them all back to back.

Is this the thing they played four or five times in a row on A&E a few Sundays ago?

Not sure,(I work weekends)but it was old Black and White footage. Kurt Russel looked like he was ready to go film ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK though, long hair and wild eyes.

Yeah, it's that, but the A&E version was condensed. I watched that thing on A&E just about every time I came across it and when I watched the DVD I noticed a lot of little extended interviews or clips or whatnot. Nothing real major.

An example would be the scene where they're at the Chinese Theater putting their feet in the cement. That part is extended about 10-15 seconds on the DVD. A&E just had to chop little parts like that off, apparently, to be able to make time. There are a lot of really cool little parts like that which didn't make A&E, though.

I watched the trilogy again over the course of last week. Aside from the really questionable change of Hayden at the end of ROTJ, I'm surprised that some of the effects actually look WORSE now.

When the sabers cross in front of the Emperor's face in ROTJ, they are a color reminiscent of vomit. Vader's saber is some weird-ass pink/watermelon color and Luke's is a yellowish-green color.

Also, in A New Hope, Luke's lightsaber is green for one shot, but I guess I can write that off to the flourescent lighting in the Millennium Falcon (I can't believe Lucas changed the lighting away from Halogen!).

Yeah, Lucas changed his lightsaber to green as shown here:

No kidding. I'm surprised no else has mentioned the scene in Episode IV where Han and Luke are gunning down TIE Fighters in the Falcon. The cels around the Fighters are so visible and crappy-looking, I'm almost embarrassed for Lucas.

After hearing all his crap through the years about how the trilogy hadn't come out on DVD because they were making sure it was just right, I now am 100% confident that Lucas is just a money-grubbing SOB. (I was only 99.76% sure before seeing the movies.)

Reverend, I have always thought that the cells were very visible on both box set versions of VHS. That's nothing new.

I am sorry, but you noticed that?!?! I mean, I grumble about the big stuff as much as anyone, but I didn't even notice a problem with that scene, now or before. (Now that I know about it though... gee thanks...) It is like the problem with the speeder sequence in the original Empire Strikes back - until someone pointed out to me that you could actually see through the speeder during the Hoth battle, I never, ever noticed it.

I am not a big fan of "changes," but it is a bit obsessive that you notice tiny flaws like that...

This I couldn't agree more with. The entire time I was in line to buy the DVDs, I was looking at it in my hand thinking "I know that SOB is going to release a new set with the original versions someday... bastard." If anything, the man sure knows how to milk us saps out of our hard earned cash...

They were. And it IS nothing new. That's EXACTLY why I thought we were made to wait for it on DVD for so long. So that he would correct that cheap-looking crap.

And Pool-Boy, I would normally agree that things like cel outlines were nitpicking, but they are SERIOUSLY pronounced and make it look very cheap.

Like I said, I once thought Lucas was holding out to make the films cleaner and better-looking. Now I'm resigned to the fact that I'm supposed to appreciate them for the way they are (with Lucas' crappy changes) and that Lucas is a greedy SOB. Now I know.

I'm just not buying them. Why bother putting more money into Lucas' pocket after he's been screwed around with Star Wars fans for so many years? Heck, I'm not even a fan of the series aside from Episodes 4 and 5. I'll save my money for the Arrested Development DVD set.
