Portland president Steve Patterson confirmed to SportsLine.com Tuesday that the Blazers and the Nets are negotiating a deal which would send G Jason Kidd to Portland and F Shareef Abdur-Raheem in the opposite direction.
A different source reports that the Blazers have already began seeking a medical opinion on the knee fracture for which Kidd was operated on during the summer and which figures to have him out until December.
The surgery was successful, and Kidd has made it clear he would like to leave the Nets, who were sold to Bruce Ratner in the spring and have essentially purged their roster since then. Likewise, Abdur-Raheem is said to have seeked a trade, dissatisfied with playing behind Zach Randolph on the depth charts.
Shareef's $14.6 million contract will expire following the upcoming season, while Kidd signed a six year deal worth over $100 just last summer.

1) Just want Portland needs. Another point guard. 2) Once again, the Nets trade for ridiculously less than equal value. The Nets get cap space at least with this movie.
EDIT: Apparently the Nets want Sebastian Telfair involved in the trade also.

Because his cousin did such a wonderful job when he was the point guard for the Nets. If this trade occurs, Jefferson will have to wonder what the hell he was thinking signing long term with the revived Clippers East. And, I don't like him for obvious reasons, but isn't it funny that the Nets somehow turned the franchise around and became credible when Steinbrenner bought the franchise, and headed back to laughingstockland once he sold them?

Since Telfair recently signed his contract, he can't be traded until December 15th. I believe that's also around the time Kidd should be back from his IL status. | Kawshen

The Nets' interest in trading Jason Kidd has moved the Knicks closer to exchanging Kurt Thomas for Wally Szczerbiak, according to several NBA sources.
In a three-way scenario shaped by the Minnesota Timberwolves' desire to land Kidd, the Knicks would send Thomas to the Nets and end up with Minnesota's Szczerbiak and New Jersey's Aaron Williams. The Nets also would land the Timberwolves' Sam Cassell and Ervin Johnson as compensation for shipping out Kidd, who is coming off knee surgery and has $90 million left on the $103 million contract he signed last summer. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
