| #2 Posted on 18.6.04 1529.32 Reposted on: 18.6.11 1531.19 | I think that it's put up or shut up time for the Saudis. I know they sent a massive amount of security forces around the city trying to find Mr. Johnson, but have they done anything before this incident to help stop terrorism in their country? It seems to me that they tell Bush one thing, and then tell their own people another thing. I know its a fundamentalist government, and I know that there are a lot of crazies in the country, so why do we continue to believe what they tell us? I really hope that the Saudis do "redouble" their efforts to stop terrorism, as Colin Powell has said, but I can't see them doing it.
Westerners in Saudi Arabia are saying that they are scared to talk to government officials and police officers, because rumors are going around that many of them are on the take, and are helping the terrorists find Americans to kidnap and kill. Supposedly, Johnson was followed for days before his kidnapping, and they waited for the right time to snatch him.

I understand what you are saying, but it does gain some sympathy in the Arab world. I know the terrorists want to see us beg for mercy, but the why can't begging help us? The Arabs might see that we're human, instead of the monsters that we seem to be portrayed as so often. Plus, this guy had a Saudi wife, and, by all accounts, was a well liked man who loved Saudi Arabia. I don't think portraying him, his family, and Americans as humans hurts us in any way. | Jaguar

I can't remember, but wasn't it Jakegnosis that quit the Rangers partly because he was pissed that Bush didn't send 'em in specifically to find and kill Osama?
I'm sorry, I'd much rather have Osama in custody (or dead!) than Saddam and his sons.

I don't really disagree, it's just that to these nutjobs we appear weak and vulnerable when we do that. To them life is cheap and they play on the fact that to us it isn't | wordlife

Well, we do have South Korea sending more troops in. That is a group of people I wouldn't wanna mess with. They don't have the liberals/beaucratic red tape there that we do.I wouldn't be too shocked if a few of these Al-Queda leaders just are "never found". | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
