Lakers 92, Wolves 85.

KG tried but too much Kobe and Shaq.

They need Cassell healthy and a front-court threat in the worst way come next season. KG isn't a real power forward. I'm beginning to see that "Good Jordan" comparison, KG is a bit too unselfish.

It looks like this one is basically done, but give props to the Big Ticket either way.

KG's never been the type to drop 50 on somebody on one night. He's always been the type to get his in the flow of the game. That's why at the end of the game, you look up and he's got 25, 20 and 8. And no, he's not a power forward in the Tim Duncan mold.

But I agree that they need some front court help next year. When Mark Madsen is your best option at the five, then you're in big trouble. They really got themselves a mess in picking up Kandi-ass. He brought NOTHING to the table, save for six fouls to pick up against Shaq. And he couldn't even do THAT right.

While I was excited about the Woofies picking up Spree and Gollum (um, I mean Cassell), I never understood how that was going to help this team in the long run. This isn't exactly a young team, and I can only see a couple of runs with this current group. Cassell's probably only got another year or two with that back, and Spree isn't exactly a spring chicken either. And KG's 28.

That said, Wally's seemed to have a spring in his step for this series, and they'll have a healthy Troy Hudson next year. With KG, Wally, Hudson and Spree, they've got a good team to build around.

As far as last night's game goes, KG did EVERYTHING the critics said he needed to do to get foul calls-namely, driving to the basket and not settling for jumpers. And he STILL didn't get any calls! Garbage.

Minny wins Game 5, Lakers win Game Six at home in Hollywood, and ABC and David Stern breathe a sigh of relief.

Foul calls have been crappy all around in this series. It's great to not try to interrupt the play of the game, but last I heard fouls *were* a part of the game and by not calling things that should be fouls, you are changing the play of the game.

Wolves 98, Lakers 96.

Not as close as the score suggests. Walton and Fisher connected on 3 wild desperation shots to end it but the Wolves made their FTs to keep it out of reach.

The Lakers took the night off and didn't play with any urgency. I really hate when they do that b/c (IMO) it reeks of arrogance and laziness.

3-2 Lakers going back to LA. The Lakers need to end this thing especially since Cassell is done for this season.

Looked at the numbers for Game 5. Field goal and 3-pt percentages were decent on the Los Angeles end, but the big issue seemed to the difference in free throw shooting. Lakers laid up bricks while the T-wolves managed to convert an extremely high number of their free throws.

Game 6 goes back to L.A and I hope the Lakers start to get a sense of urgency now. Don't give Minnesota any kind of hope, or they will make the Lakers pay!

... The Lakers' play in the first quarter of Game 6 was the most intense I've seen out of them all season, and their role players' execution and overall unselfish play in the fourth quarter was excellent. I'm not sure why the referees decided to make a mockery of the game in the second quarter; perhaps they wanted the celebrities in the stands to notice them.

I still think Minnesota's a terrific ballclub. They were banged up, they definitely could have used the talents of Cassell and Hudson, but they played a great series anyway. While they might need another banger in the paint, I think that McHale and Saunders are doing things the right way, and they WILL win a title soon. Their fans should be very proud of them.

Yeah, you have to give props to the Wolves, though. They were banged up (their starting and backup point guards done for the year) and exhausted (playing the Lakers TWO DAYS after a grueling Game 7 against the Kings) and lacked playoff experience. They stayed with the Lake Show as best as they could and kept the series pretty competitive even though they were criminally outmatched.

A depleted, inexperienced Wolves team that lots thought the Lakers would just walk over lost by no more than 11. I really do think they made a statement in Game 2 (The 89-71 asskicking) saying that they wouldn't be pushovers.

That said, the Wolves need a frontcourt if they want to win. Kevin Garnett is a small forward by nature so they need a natural power forward and a real good center who can draw defenders in allowing KG, Spree and Alien some open shots.

No shame in losing to the Lakers, though I think a lot of folks are shocked they were able to take 2 games from them.

Moment I knew the game was over: With about nine minutes left, KG's bringing the ball up court, with Malone guarding him. KG steps inside the arc, and puts a move on Malone that makes his knees BUCKLE. And instead of driving past Malone, KG passes the ball. Missed three, Lakers rebound, and I start banging my head against wall.

Question: When you start to have success in the second quarter by driving to the basket and drawing fouls, when you get the other team's top two guys into foul trouble by driving to the basket and drawing fouls, when you climb from a thirteen-point deficit to a four-point lead by driving to the basket and drawing fouls, what do you do to open the third quarter? Naturally, you start shooting jumpers again. Arrgh.

At the beginning of the series I said it would go 6 if Spree and Wally played well. They did, and I'm going to pat myself on the back.

The Wolves really missed Hudson more than Cassell. The Lakers didn't really gameplan for the KG, Spree, Wally offense. They could have stolen Game 3, if anyone stood up besides Wally in the 2nd half. And Martin makes that 3. Not having Hudson is what really killed the Wolves.
