1) Browns 2) (tie) Indians, Cavaliers 3) Ohio State
Previously, the Indians took advantage of hitting the apex of their championship run while the Browns left town. Make no mistake about it though, this is a football town. Now the Tribe would have been a solid second place, but with their rebuilding and the almighty James in place, the Cavs have definitely made their move in the mindset of the town. | timdrake

Is that even remotely close? Well, I haven't lived in MA for years now so I'm going to defer a bit to those who do (redsoxnation, I'm looking at you). For me personally, these days (post Super Bowl win and Game 7) it's Sox first, then Pats, Celts and Bruins. Depending on the season, these can change a little, but that's generally how my loyalties lie and also those of the Boston fans I know.

Of course, the return of Antoine (with all the accompanying venom being spewed) perked things up a little for the C's, and with the big win over Dallas, some renewed interest might be forthcoming.

I think UT football gets much more press than Vandy Hoops (in the good years) by far ... though I'm not knocking Vandy's hoops squad ... they are looking to heavily contend in the SEC this year.

*Would be 4th were it not for the World Series AND the fact that the Heat has gone in the tank the last few years.
But football owns that town, and there were some years in Miami (during the years where the Dolphins were mediocre and the Hurricanes were dominant) that UM actually outranked the Fins in the pecking order (probably from 1987 to 1990 that was the case)
But just for fun, let's contrast that with my NEW home of Tallahassee....

I'd LOVE to participate, if only we had a damn football team in the first place. Geez.
As far as "hoops first" goes, the Lakers are obviously the #1 sports team here in LA. I dont watch baseball or Hockey, so I couldnt tell you much about the Kings (NHL), Ducks, Angels, or Dodgers.

1. Mariners 2. Husky football 3. Sonics (but this one is falling...) 4. Seahawks (and this one is rising...) 5. The Hydroplane races at Seafair (which I'll NEVER "get") 6. Husky women's basketball 7. Gonzaga men's basketball (I know they're in Spokane but they have to go here) 8. WSU football (they're in Pullman but they go here, they might actually be as high as #5) 9. Husky men's basketball (Zzzzzzzzzzz...)
EDIT: When I first moved here in 1991 it went (1) UW football by a huge margin, then (2) Seahawks on their way down to the bottom, (3) Sonics as they hadn't started their mid-90s run, and waaaaaaaay down on the list would've been the Mariners, routinely filling the Kingdome to 20% capacity. The Cougs sucked then too, but so did Husky hoops.

I'd have to agree with everything he said. Although, since all the trades Danny Ainge has made, the Celtics have been getting a lot of talk here lately.
The funny thing to me is, its December, the Patriots are 12-2, and all everyone wants to talk about is the Red Sox. That shows this is a Red Sox town first and foremost.
Personally though, I put the Bruins ahead of the Celtics, but I have been a hockey fan as far back that I can remember. But ever since they stopped spending any money, they have falling off severly here.
And another good thing about the marathon is that we get Monday off and it's usually my first trip to the golf course of the year. :)

| #20 Posted on 19.12.03 1136.16 Reposted on: 19.12.10 1136.30 | Well, in Pittsburgh, the list goes something like this:
1. Larry Fitzgerald 2. Steelers 3. Pitt Football 4. Pitt Mens Bball 5. High School Football (can be as high as second) 6. Penguins 7. Pirates
That list changes sometimes...make no mistake, this is always going to be a football town, and when the Steelers are good, which is usually every year, the place is freaking rabid for them. But give them a little bit of a down year, give Pitt its highest profile player in 20 years, and have the Pitt basketball team as good as it is, then, well, you've got competition.
And by the way, seeing as this is the basketball forum, what's the deal with the lack of love for Pitt? I will be the first to admit that they could play the school for the blind in non-conference and it would be a step up from most of the teams they play, but c'mon.
Also, I know they haven't looked all that impressive at times, but this has never been a team to blow people out by ridiculous margins. The Pitt hallmark is to beat good and bad teams by 16 points, every time.
Some people say they lost a ton when Brandin Knight graduated--granted Knight was a great player, but in Carl Krauser they gained a better shooter, an almost as good defender, and a guy that is growing into just as good a leader as Knight was. Additionally, they still have Julius Page, Jaron Brown, Chevy Troutman, and they made up for the loss of Ontario Lett with Chris Taft, who only happens to be bigger, stronger, faster, and better than Lett. Think Chris Wilcox, only much much better.
So with all that in mind, what gives? why don't they get any respect?
Rant over. |
