I was hoping the Nuggets would end up with B-Rad. So much for all those free agents, Kiki.

Well, that certainly beefs up the front line of the Kings. Hedo had seemingly lost favor, and Pollard isn't that great of a loss, considering he was out for most of last year.

My question is where does Mercer and Hedo fit in with Smith, Bowen, Ginobli, and Horry (has he signed yet?)? Also, what are they going to do to backup Tony Parker? Claxton got signed away by the Warriors. What else is out there?

My heart says "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" but my head says "hmm, intriguing. At least I have a reason to read the Sacramento Bee sports columnists for the next few days."

First thought was Pacers got hosed - good deal for the Kings and the Spurs - Mercer will fit in very well in SA - good D and can score - just needs to tone down his act a bit and maybe Duncan can get him to do it.

So, the Spurs get 2 players who provide depth to their bench without giving up anything? I think that makes them winners in this trade.

What about Darius Songalia? Have you Kings fans totally forsaken him already?

I believe that I read that they will have to give up a draft pick, but they did make a great deal. The guys they got were available because of salary cap issues and the Spurs have ample space under the cap. Both are also in the last year of their contracts so it will allow them to have cap space next year in the off-season as well.

See, this is why I stopped following the NBA around the '97-'98 season. I have NO idea who plays where anymore...

On one hand, getting Turkoglu and Mercer and not give up anybody is great for the Spurs depth. On the other, it could mean that free-agent Stephen Jackson will be gone, since either of them can play and start at his position and the Spurs don't want to tie up money to re-sign Ginobili next year by committing to Jax for the long-term deal he's seeking.

With Jax possibly gone, this puts the Spurs projected starting five at:

C - Rasho
F - Duncan
F - Bowen
G - Turkoglu
G - Parker

With Horry, Rose, Ginobili, Mercer, Kerr, and Willis on the bench. The Spurs have quietly bolstered their lineup here.

Does Turkoglu play guard some? I didn't know that, he's pretty big isn't he?

Anyway, I think the deal is good for the Spurs and Kings. Jimmy Jackson was good off the bench this year so that's one more bench player, so they don't have to worry about losing Turkoglu. Plus i'd like to see Gerald Wallace get some more time. And now having Vlade and Miller at center you have two guys who will atleast play decent against Shaq. Also you don't have to worry about putting an undersized Keon Clark in at center if Pollard is injured, instead he can backup Webber.

Edit: I just looked at the Kings roster on ESPN and there was no Jimmy Jackson. And then searched for his name and there was no sign of him on any other team either. He didn't retire did he?

He's testing the waters - hopefully the Kings can get another bargain year out of him when nobody expresses sufficient interest.

Chad Ford (ESPN Insider) says the T-Wolves are probably going to use their $1.5 million trade exception on Jackson.
