ESPN's Association Vanguard Ric Bucher is reporting that Karl Malone will sign with the Dark Side Lakers for the veteran minimum.
In other news, NBA Commissioner David Stern reported earlier today that the league will be contracted from 30 franchises to 2, the Dark Side Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs, beginning in 2005.

In the meantime, I'm pleased as punch about this week's developments (Duuh). It should make for a very interresting off-season to watch teams wheel & deal with each other to counter-act what the Lakers are putting together. Especially after I heard all the Spurs/Nets Sign & Trade rumors on the radio today. Kidd for Parker/Jackson? Kidd for Parker/Rose? I dont remember anything too exciting going on last summer, but this summer should be different.
At the same time, I'll be honest with you. I'm a bit curious to see how these 4 Laker superduperstars handle the fact that there's only one ball on the court that they all have to share. I read (I think on espn.com) that Karl Malone is perfectly fine being the #4 go-to guy on the team, and everyone on the radio today was talking about how excited he must be at the thought of being able to play under single-coverage.
I also think Shaquille is mature enough to know that he'll have to share even more of the "go-to guy" responsibilities with Payton, Malone, AND Kobe. I havent heard or read anything about how Payton feels about it, but I gotta assume he's on the same page. Kobe's the one I'm semi-worried about. I mean, there's no use bringing these guys on the team if they're never going to get the ball. Then again, I'm sure most of his ball-hogging from last year (and the year before) can be attributed to the fact that he didnt trust his teammates. HOPEFULLY, he wont have that problem this year.
And on a side note, I think it's gonna be a LOOOOOOOONG time before we get to hear any interviews with Kobe Bryant where he'll be asked to talk about anything even remotely related to basketball. | Chico Santana

From watching a little bit about Dream Team 2 on EspnClassic last night, most of the footage was of Payton/Malone/Shaq playing and joking around with each other. And wanting to win over seventy games would sound exciting to most NBA players, I think. Nobody is gonna get double teamed, well LA Laker groupies maybe but no one on the B-ball court. It will be fun to see the Lakers vs. Mavs in a game that could get up to 300 points or more combined. When it's playoff time the west is gonna be sick to watch. The East will be crushed again next year, that's for sure. I hate the Lakers(I'm a Celtic fan,*starts to weep*), but at least the NBA will be entertaining this year.
