Will he return to the Heat? Or go somewhere else? I think Dallas would be a good fit, Cuban will spend money and a big man would put them in the upper echelon of the NBA with Sacramento, LA, and San Antonio. Doc and GM Gabriel have ONE YEAR to get it together and they are frothing at the mouth to get him. But all things considered, Mourning is a worse risk than Grant Hill - look how * that * turned out.
If he's healthy (which appears to be a big * if *), he would be a great asset. But all things considered, I think that the Magic could do better than another crippled millionaire on the bench cheering for a .500 ball team.

I'm as big a fan of Sacramento as the next guy (and San Antonio, too, if they can finish off the Lakers), but do you really think the Mavs aren't ALREADY in the "upper echelon" of the NBA? If the ridiculous start to their season didn't convince you, what about their awesome regular season record (league best, right?) and the way they've been handling the Kings in their current series?
They may not have big men like the other teams, but Dirty, Nasty, and Nick 'By God' Van Exel more than make up for that.

Agreed. But in that respect, the Kings and the Spurs also have yet to prove what they deserve to be in the "upper echelon." I guess you could make a case for the Spurs since they did their thing a few years ago, but if they choke away their current lead over the Lakers, they can't be considered any better of a team than Dallas, even if Dallas also loses their lead to the Kings.

Sure they had a great start and a good season. But...
A) They still only went 4 - 8 against San Antonio, LA, and Sac, so it's not like theyr'e beating any of these teams on a regular basis
B) One of those wins was against the Lakers when they obviously weren't the same team
C) Let's not forget the fourth quarter debacle against the Lakers
D) They're not handling the Kings
E) CHRIS WEBBER is injured, that's a pretty big deal you know when one of the top 10 players in the league is absent. If Webber were playing then it's a completely different ball game because he would be destroying Mavs weak front court. Just look at the game he got injured, he had 31 points in 3 quarters. I'm sure if Dirk were injured the Mavs wouldn't be going anywhere either.
F) They had a hard enough time getting past the Blazers, they would not beat the Spurs, Lakers, or Kings if they were healthy.
So no, until they show that they can beat these teams then i'm not convinced they are in the same league. | CRZ
