I think everyone should read this..... it would be good for those who try to paint all Muslims as evil to see that Saddam's right hand man was a supposed religious Christian. Just proves that Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, you can still be an evil asshole.

I mean really-

Who ACTUALLY paints all Muslims as evil?

I think it is safe to say that everyone reading on this site would admit that all religions have their fare share of evil bastards...

You would be surprised.... I have heard arguments that the whole Muslim race/religion should be eliminated.

I was thinking more of the HARDCORE, southern Baptists out there in the small towns of Georgia. Some of those guys tell me I'm going to hell for not being a Christian when I tell them I'm Catholic. Also, being on college campuses you get some crazys who think that. Gotta love walking to class and on one side have some guy who wants me to sign a petition to go to war with all the Middle East and on the other a guy who wants me to sign a petition to destroy all our weapons and declare peace with Al-Queda.

I can second those sentiments. I've had NUMEROUS conversations / debates with Baptists over the validity of the Muslim religion (but, granted, my stance is a little bit different, and most people don't wish death on them). Probably the most disturbing thing I've seen with regards to that is I was in an Assembly of God church, and the preacher was saying something along the lines of eliminating the Muslims. I have never left church... but I was insanely close to leaving that day.

Most of your Holy Rollin' charasmatic sects of Christianity are like that. The Pentecostal/Assembly of God/Southern Baptist Right apparently forgot Luke 6:37 (and the other three gospels where Jesus said "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." Thats from the NIV, btw.

People forgot long ago its not our place to tell someone where they are going- thats up to God and God alone.

But then again- I am judging them by judging them for judging. Its a vicsous circle isn't it.

Based in the UK, I don't know many Baptists, though I do happen to know one via the net in Missouri.

I had a discussion with her a few months back regarding a paper she was writing for school. The chosen topic (by herself) was Islam was not a "real" religion and that Mohamed was not a prophet but an ego driven man who took parts of Christianity and Judaism to form Islam to satisfy his own craving for recognition. I wasn't aware this a sentiment shared as a whole, in general, by the Baptist community. Anyone happen to know where I could read more about this?

Moving onto the topic of Muslims in general, I think the community as a whole has to bear some responsibility for the representation they are receiving from those on the extreme right. While the Politically Correct answer is that, they are people of peace, most if not all have a healthy resentment of the West and the United States in particular and are sympathetic to Bin Laden and other terrorist factions causes.

There is a reluctance to educate from within to build a better future and I find it baffling that there are so many prepared to take part in suicide attacks and so few who actually willing to help their fellow muslims (financially, socially etc) in their suffering in various parts of the world.

So many appear to live in fear of right wing clerics.

When you talk about "Baptists" you can't lump them all together. There are about 16 or 17 recognized sects of Baptist Denominations Ranging from charimatic traditional (Southern Baptists) to non-charasmatic independent (First Baptist- Second Reformation movement).

Some Baptists are hard core traditionalists who yes, want to maim and kill Muslims and blow up abortion clinics- then there are some on the complete other extreme of the spectrum who allow homosexuals as ministers and church board members.

All told the Baptist movement has sprung off the most sub-denominations in modern day Christianity.

I think we should take the same viewpoint towards the "Holy Rollers". I have been around Pentecostal churches/people since I was 9, and I have never heard anyone wish death or harm to anyone of any religion. Just because some guy on TV says something, doesn't mean anyone who belongs to the same, broad grouping believes it too.

Agreed. Sorry- didn't meant offend anyone. But down here in the south you will find a lot of people who think that way.

But no NOT everyone who is a member of those churches feels that way and I am sorry to lump you all together.

Hey, no offense taken. I was born in the south and lived there for 27 years (no, MO is definitely not the south) and believe me, there are truly some people with strange ideas, especially in some religious circles.

EDIT: Why be nice, there are some true crazies in the south.
