Stayed up until the wee hours watching my beloved team almost succumb to the total idiocy of Ned Yost. The Boys in Blue won this game DESPITE Ned, not because of. I know they like him, but he is a buffoon. Anyway, on the Angels!!

PS - Yes, I know how to spell advance. Stupid fingers.

Yes, we in Milwaukee are in the Ned Yost fan club much like you, pieman. I'll be rooting for your club in spite of Yost due to liking Aoki, Escobar, and Cain.

Royals advance again! If you put some money on a Baltimore/Kansas City ALCS before the season started, you are a rich man.

Me too, as a Cubs fan. But then, anytime someone beats Pujlos (and maybe the Cards later) I am a fan
whatever

I figure the Royals will win solely to have every other AL Central Team win a Series before the &*@%$ Indians.

At least beat the Orioles, please.

I, too, am a Mets fan rooting for the Royals. I was actually quite a Royals fan for a stretch in the late-70s/early 80s, when the Mets (although I still rooted for them) were awful, and the Royals were the best hope of beating the Yankees. Loved George Brett, and Willie Wilson was from near my hometown.

BTW, with the Nats out, there will not be a matchup of two expansion teams in the World Series. (edited, see below) There NEVER has been one. I find that rather amazing. I mean, in the 60s and 70s, it made sense, because the expansion teams were relatively new. But now most of them have been around for 35 years or more. Market size is a factor, but it's not like St. Louis or Oakland have huge markets (not to mention Pittsburgh and Minnesota, but they haven't been in the Series much lately). I guess there's really some effect to having been around so long...

Pretty sure the Royals have already won a series (1985) since the Indians last won. More recently than the Tigers (1984), too.

I'm actually rooting for the Orioles, since my best friend is an Os fan... and also since they so handily beat my Tigers. But I wouldn't mind the Royals winning. Just PLEASE not the Giants or Cards.

Hi, I've been lurking on this forum for a couple of months now. I just signed up to say, this is not true. It has never happened in the World Series, but:

2011, Brewers and the Diamondbacks in the nlds
2011, Rays and Rangers in the alcs
2010, Rays and Rangers in the alcs
2007, Rockies and the Diamondbacks in the alcs
1999, Diamondbacks and Mets in the nlds
1998, Astros and Padres in the nlds
1986, Mets and Astros in the nlcs
1985, Royals and Blue Jays in the alcs
1982, Angels and the Brewers in the alcs

I believe that's all of them.

Go Royals, though I'm a Dodgers fan. :(

Yes, I typed "playoffs", but I meant "World Series". Will edit. Thanks.

Living in Kansas, I followed them all season and never thought they would be able to get this far. Is it just me or is baseball the only major pro sport in the USA that allows for this type of run? And is baseball the sport of the big 4 where you can catch fire like this?

Or is it just that the Royals had the talent and it finally decided to show itself?

I'm a homer and I started watching baseball in 1985, so a Cards-Royals rematch in the 'Series would be fun to see.

I am accepting of the fact that the Cardinals have become the John Cena of baseball.

It can happen in hockey, but it's much less likely in basketball or football.

I've seen it in hockey before but in basketball only very rarely and almost never in football.

Aren't the 2010 Packers and 2011 Giants examples of getting hot at the right time?

A tour de force if there ever was one. That bullpen is simply incredible. And amazingly, during the post game interview, YOST actually seemed LIKABLE. And it seems like he's LEARNING.
