Jeff Beck Chic Wanda Jackson Little Anthony & The Imperials Metallica Run-DMC The Stooges War Bobby Womack
Metallica and Run-DMC are both first-time-eligible, and there's no question in my mind that they will both get in, and deservedly so. Beyond that, I'm not terribly happy with the list of nominees this time. My annual complaint is that The Hollies and Tommy James have never been nominated, when I think they're much more deserving than several acts that have gone in. (Del Shannon, for example.) There are some major acts from the early days who haven't gotten in, such as The Clovers and Wynonie Harris, and while I'm not a prog-rock fan myself, there's no question that the genre is underrepresented: how is it possible that Genesis has never even been nominated, given that they both made highly acclaimed progressive albums such as The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, and achieved massive commercial success?
Moreover, I can't see how the Beastie Boys and Donna Summer were not nominated after both having been nominated last year. It seems clear to me that Summer was more important than Chic, who were nominated from the same genre. The Beasties to me are more valid than at least half the nominees.
If I had a vote, besides Run-DMC and Metallica, I'd opt for War and Little Anthony. Not sure at this point who I'd give the fifth spot to; none of the rest, to me, really deserve it, at least when I think about those who aren't there. My guess is that the remaining three slots will go to War, Chic, and the Stooges.
But really, The Hollies, Tommy James, The Clovers, Wynonie Harris, Genesis, Jerry Butler, The Beastie Boys, The Moody Blues, Chicago...they ought to be in. Promote this thread! | | samoflange

Beck influence is almost immeasurable, but never sold a tonne of records as a solo artist, nor was he part of any bands that did while he was a member.
There's only one name on my list of "WTF?!" non-nominees: Tom Waits. | OndaGrande

Rogers and Edwards absolutely belong in the HOF, but as individuals.
On the other hand, if you're going to induct disco artists, Chic was as good as the genre got. "Good Times" and "I Want Your Love" will be going through my head all night now. | J. Kyle
