Sometimes I like talking into the void.

With less than a month to go until the October 6 launch, Harmonix has announced the full list of Rock Band 4 songs:

On-disc songs:
  • .38 Special - Caught Up in You
  • 4 Non Blondes - What's Up?

  • Avenged Sevenfold - Hail to the King
  • Benjamin Booker - Violent Shiver
  • The Black Keys - Fever
  • The Both - Milwaukee
  • Brad Paisley ft. Keith Urban - Start a Band
  • Brandi Carlile - Mainstream Kid
  • Cake - Short Skirt/Long Jacket
  • The Cure - Friday I'm In Love
  • Dark Wheels - V-Bomb
  • Disturbed - Prayer
  • Dream Theater - Metropolis - Part 1 'The Miracle And The Sleeper'
  • Duck & Cover - Knock 'Em Down
  • Eddie Japan - Albert
  • Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds
  • Fall Out Boy - Centuries
  • Fleetwood Mac - You Make Loving Fun
  • Foo Fighters - The Feast and the Famine
  • Gary Clark Jr. - Ain't Messin' 'Round
  • Gin Blossoms - Follow You Down
  • Grouplove - Tongue Tied
  • Halestorm - I Miss the Misery
  • Heart - Kick It Out
  • Heaven's Basement - I Am Electric
  • Imagine Dragons - I Bet My Life
  • Jack White - Lazaretto
  • Jeff Allen ft. Noelle LeBlanc and Naoko Takamoto - Recession
  • Johnny Blazes and the Pretty Boys - Cold Clear Light
  • Judas Priest - Halls of Valhalla
  • The Killers - Somebody Told Me
  • Lightning Bolt - Dream Genie
  • Little Big Town - Little White Church
  • Live - All Over You
  • Lucius - Turn it Around
  • Lynyrd Skynyrd - That Smell
  • Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk
  • The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - The Impression That I Get
  • Mumford & Sons - The Wolf

  • Rick Derringer - Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo
  • Rush - A Passage to Bangkok
  • Scandal - The Warrior
  • Scorpions - No One Like You (2011 re-record)
  • Slydigs - Light the Fuse
  • Soul Remnants - Dead Black (Heart of Ice)
  • Soundgarden - Superunknown
  • Spin Doctors - Little Miss Can't Be Wrong
  • St. Vincent - Birth in Reverse
  • System of a Down - Spiders
  • Tijuana Sweetheart - Pistol Whipped
  • Van Halen - Panama
  • Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl
  • The Warning - Free Falling
  • White Denim - At Night in Dreams
  • The Who - The Seeker

...meh.

I'm sure that some of these would be fun new discoveries, but looking at this list, there are only 15 songs I'd want. Plus everything I've said before about having to buy an Xbox One just for this, and losing keyboards and pro guitar (which I rarely played anyway, but) and custom songs. Plus I am trying to not spend money on stupid things (or, really, I am trying to spend money on a different class of stupid thing - let me tell you about next year's dumb Toronto trip sometime). So I think I am foregoing this. Regretfully.

There are also some pre-order exclusives, but I'm sure they'll all come as DLC eventually. For the record, I'd prefer the Amazon pack solely for DFA1979:

Amazon preorder exclusives:
  • Alabama Shakes - Don't Wanna Fight
  • Breaking Benjamin - Failure
  • Death from Above 1979 - Trainwreck 1979
  • The Pretty Reckless - Follow Me Down

PSN pre-order exclusives:
  • All That Remains - Divide
  • Blitz Kids - Run For Cover
  • Bring Me the Horizon - Throne
  • Dead Sara - Mona Lisa
  • Duran Duran - The Reflex
  • Janis Joplin - Move Over
  • Of Mice & Men - Would You Still Be There
  • Oh Honey - Sugar You
  • Pantera - Cowboys from Hell (Live from Monsters in Moscow Festival)
  • Seasick Steve - Summertime Boy

Ahhh.. it isn't a bad setlist. It is missing a few notable things:

I don't see a good popular party song that everyone is going to want play; Bon Jovi, Enter Sandman like song that newbies will want to play.

I do see some cool "weird/possibly challenging songs" like Cake..

But Metropolis pt 1? I am almost sold and I wasn't even interested before this post.

Not a bad list, and I'm sure tons of DLC will make it better... and being able to redownload all of the Rock Band 3 songs I ended up with is always good.

However, I don't have a PS4 or Xbone, so I'm out of luck anyway. Us poor Wii U losers get nothing. That's fine, fine, I'll just keep playing the old version.

Well I'm officially old.

Still probably going to break down and buy this before I get a PS4 or a Wii U.

Lots of unfamiliar names on there for me, too. (I mean, how many new guitar bands from the last 10 years can anyone name?) Although if anyone can cobble together a fun setlist on a tight budget, it's Harmonix. They know what's what.

The drum part on the new Lightning Bolt song is going to be worth the price of admission all by itself.
