| #1 Posted on 2.1.16 1342.05 Reposted on: 2.1.23 1342.05 | Kept waiting for the PS Store update and there was no PS Update. Oops. In the meantime, there's a big holiday sale that's almost over by now.
The January PS+ update is next Tuesday (so you've onnly got a few days left for that too.) New games - Dragon Age: Origins, PS3 - Grim Fandango Remastered, PS4, PS Vita - Hardware: Rivals, PS4 - Legends of War Patton, PS Vita - Medal of Honor Warfighter, PS3 - Nihilumbra, PS Vita
Also, I got a WiiU for some reason. I don't think I'm doing threads for that but who knows. I think I might be finally trading in my PS3 to create some HDMI space. Promote this thread! | | thecubsfan

| #2 Posted on 5.1.16 1947.13 Reposted on: 5.1.23 1952.23 | I'm up to the end of Final Fantasy VII. I think it finally clicked with me once we got to the backstory of what really had going on. (Following along on a FAQ to know to go some place to get an extra scene helped.) I think I'd be done if I hadn't been feeling sick for the last few days.
Playstation Network was done for most of Monday. And then it was back up! That was good that it was back up. You might get some extra time on your subscription based services because of this.
PS Now added a bunch more games. It's $99/year holiday offer ends next Monday.
Today is the first update of the month, so the new PS+ games are available.

| #3 Posted on 7.1.16 0832.22 Reposted on: 7.1.23 0833.32 | I got Fallout 4 for Christmas. My post-apocalyptic wanderer, Jamaica Kaleidoscope, is very intelligent but not at all physically suited for this new world. He's died many times over already.
I also got Amplitude as part of their Kickstarter. Haven't tried it yet.
Wound up buying Guitar Hero Live. Wasn't expecting to do so but it got great reviews, was on sale (and I had an Amazon card), and I'd have to buy an Xbox One if I wanted Rock Band 4. And that's happening someday, let's be honest, but not right now and probably not soon. Anyway, it's fun! Still very much like the Guitar Hero you remember, despite the new aesthetics. The game is probably as challenging as previous versions; some parts of the new button layout are easier, some are harder. Playing along with the "video channels" is interesting and taught me that that "this is gonna be the best day of my li-i-i-i-i-i-fe" song is an actual song and not just music for ads.

Here's Polygon's list of best Wii U games for new owners. The Wii U doesn't have a ton of games but it does have a number of great exclusives (he said, as though Cubs has never heard of Mario or Zelda or Mario Kart or Splatoon or Mario Maker or Smash Bros). | thecubsfan

I wind up googling "eshop releases" every Thursday afternoon and looking for new articles and often not finding much. There's a sale on some Wii U and 3DS downloads right now though.

gamelog Update: I beat Final Fantasy VII. It was good and I'm glad I played it even if I felt like I didn't like it quite as much as other people. (I definitely didn't have the same affection for the main characters as other people seemed to do.) It could just be I'm playing a 20 year old game and some of the stuff that popped out as new there have been co-opted by other media since then and I'm just missing the context.
vital thecubsfan Final Fantasy gameplay check list
Final Fantasy - started on the NES, never finished, tried playing via emulation once and it's so slow Final Fantasy II - nah Final Fantasy III - nah Final Fantasy IV - yes! Final Fantasy V - started in emulation but didn't finish? Final Fantasy VI - yes, as I live and breathe Final Fantasy VII - yes, are you not paying attention Final Fantasy VIII - nah Final Fantasy IX - apparently yes, though I had no memory of it until I found the CDs while cleaning up a couple weeks ago Final Fantasy X - Yes! a tremendous amount, but this one also kind of caused me to stop playing more after this point.
Played a lot Final Fantasy Tactics Advance too.
I've been playing Mario Kart 8 for the last while. It's good! I need to play it less against the computer and more against other people. It's really weird they don't have specific battle levels. I probably need to get a deeper WiiU game.
possible useful info: to trade in a PS3 to Gamestop, you need (all things working) - the actual console - a controler - a cord to plug in the PS3 - a cord to plug in the controller to the PS3 - an AV cord (HDMI) to plug the PS3 in to the TV.
This is not a great deal when the HDMI cord is about 1/5th of the whole return value. Everything else has gone down in value since that thing came out, but the HDMI cord still works the same.
Random: You can play as Mike Tyson in the next UFC game. Weird.
PSN Store update
PS4 Games 5 Star Wrestling: ReGenesis $19.99; Klaus $19.99 Attractio $19.99 Baseball Riot $4.99 Croixleur Sigma $14.99 Dark Cloud 2 (PS2) $14.99 Inside My Radio $14.99 Resident Evil 0 $19.99 Stardust Vanguards $9.99 Tachyon Project $9.99 The Deadly Tower Of Monsters $14.99

PS Vita Games Atelier Escha & Logy Plus ~Alchemists Of The Dusk Sky~ $39.99 Baseball Riot $4.99 Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty $19.99 Red Game Without A Great Name $4.99
There was a PS3 5 Star Wrestling game that came out last year that was no good. There was a tour of shows in Europe last week called 5 Star Wrestling last week and I did not realize they were meant to be promoting this game until this minute. No one's posted a review that I could easily find. The trailer is eh.

| #9 Posted on 20.1.16 2357.05 Reposted on: 20.1.23 2358.16 | Right before XII came out, I made it a goal to play as many of the early FF's as I could. I got a bunch of the GBA remakes and managed to play I,II,IV, and most of V. After watching that evolution, and then jumping into XII, you could see that the premise of the game was always the same, the main difference was how much the technology forced them to abstract what they wanted to do. I loved that XII didn't have an actual overworld to cross - you weren't stuck with maps of changing scale while your avatar was always the same size on screen, for example.
I like to think that when I'm too old to do anything else, I'll have time to go back and play through some of the games again. Its odd to think I sunk enough time to breed the golden chocobo and get Knights of the Round in two VII playthroughs, yet I doubt I'd even finish the game just focusing on the main story if I started it up now.
That said, XII felt like the perfect jumping off point for me. I didn't bother with XIII and XV looks just as uninteresting. Maybe in 20-30 years I'll check out XXV. | Mr Shh

To this day, XIII is the only game I ever 100%ed, and I regret it. The grinding. My God, the grinding. Plus, I just couldn't understand the story. I will likely never touch this game again.
I think my enjoyment return has decreased with each installment since VII. But for the forseeable future, I will continue to play non-MMO FFs. | ekedolphin
