| #1 Posted on 20.11.16 0724.45 Reposted on: 20.11.23 0725.59 | Not much sizzle here, but they more than made up for it with steak. This was a really, really good show, easily the best two hours of pure wrestling in months. Results:
Bobby Roode beat Tye Dillinger with the Impaler in the most Canadian opener possible. Live crowd loved this, but I could have done with about 10 minutes less from this near half-hour match.
Authors of Pain win the Dusty Cup. I said before that TM61 had given them their best match to date, and this one actually surpassed it. TM61 looked good in the loss, and there's still a lot of forward potential for both teams.
DIY beat the Revival in the match of the night. No real surprise on that score; I think we were all most looking forward to this one. Arguably the best heels in the company took on UN-arguably the guys with the best build in the company. Seriously, in about a year DIY have gone from "no, really, who the fuck are these guys?" to a team that the crowd was practically begging to win the titles (and as an aside, it was a really good crowd for the show, too). Anyhoo, Revival took the first fall with a Shatter Machine, DIY the second with a Combo Strike, and then DIY captured the belts with a double submission, with both members of the Revival tapping out in a really fun spot. My favorite thing about this whole match was DIY constantly on the lookout for the Revival, not allowing them to sneak up on them at any point in the match like they usually do. I love when matches build on that kind of stuff.
Asuka retained her belt vs. Mickie James. James was a pleasant surprise, wrestling quite a bit better than I expected out of her. Wouldn't mind her sticking around a bit.
Finally, Samoa Joe scored an upset to win back the title from Nakamura, becoming the first ever two-time NXT champion. The ref allowed a lot of leeway here, basically turning this match into a street fight. Joe managed to pull a low blow on the outside, then an urinage on the ring steps, and finally a Muscle Buster for the pin.
Really good show, top to bottom. Maybe not as good as Dallas, but what do you want? I've seen some people talking about Revival or Nakamura getting called up; I'm not sure about that, or if either are a good idea just yet, but if that's the case, I'd like to see Revival to Smackdown (more AA matches, plus I wouldn't send my worst enemies to feud with New Day. NOBODY gets past them) and Nakamura to RAW to fight KO.

Holy cow, that tag title match. I personally loved how The Revival spent the majority of the match working Gargano's knee and Dash hit him with a MOTHERFUCKER of a chop block. ON HIS GOOD LEG. Beautiful. | Rudoublesedoublel

Has WWE decided that Takeover is for wrestling fans and the PPV is for sports entertainment fans?
For my $.02 the two best matches of the year (given that I'm only watching US matches from WWE) are Nakamura-Zayn and Revival-DIY. | DirtyMikeSeaver

I was totally invested in that match and I don't even watch NXT on the regular. The pre match promo summed everything up nicely and it was easy for anyone not familiar with these guys to follow the story. And it was such a simple story. I mean, has there been ONE title match that has meant more on the RAW/Smackdown side that has meant as much as that match? Instead, the tag champs sell Booty Os and are failed Republican nominees. | Tenken347

I'm going to say yes, there has been exactly one match that mattered as much - the Miz/Ziggler title vs. career match. But that's it, and your point is well taken. I'm glad that, as a non-regular watcher, the pre-match promo package was as good to you as it was to me. I thought that was one of the finest ones they've done in a while, and I think that Johnny Gargano is quietly a much better promo than people often realize. He's got a great ability to sell the "realness" of a wrestling match.

| #6 Posted on 21.11.16 0751.00 Reposted on: 21.11.23 0751.20 | Every Takeover is seemingly just so enjoyable to me. I have missed most of the recent NXTs, mostly due to a month or so away from the Network (and now I'm back, thanks e-mail for three free months!). This show made me regret that a bit.
Roode/Dillinger was fun! Both should be on the main rosters. Tye would be perfect as a midcarder on let's say SmackDown. I appreciated the story told, though I was hoping Tye would get an upset. Either way, he came out looking great and Bobby was glorious of course.
Wasn't too into the Dusty finals, though both teams were servicable. This was the first time I really paid attention to the Authors and I dug them.
That tag title match... god. It was perfect. One of the best matches I have ever seen. Everybody looked like a million bucks.
The womens title match was fun as well. I had forgotten I was in love with Mickie, but now I remember. She looked great, kept up, and would entirely fit in as a regular roster member. And whoever does take down Asuka - Ember? - is going to look huge.
I kinda didn't watch the whole main event, which tends to be what happens to me with Takeovers. | dMp

| #7 Posted on 21.11.16 1602.25 Reposted on: 21.11.23 1607.47 | This was by far Joe's best match in NXT. Until now I always had that feeling "he's good but no longer the great guy he once was" but omg he was a TRUE MONSTER here. From taking out Nakamura's legs with some sort of knee breaker-sitdown-bomb to the triple suplexes to taking out the legs again by steamroller to that glorious unexpected win. Wow. Totally unexpected too. Though after me going "WOAH" my first words were "Nakamura will be in the Rumble"
The 2/3 falls match was indeed MotN, possibly MotY. Great great action, great story and just an amazing passion from both teams. Revival are the top guys. THey can work with everyone. Chiampa and Johnny do deserve to be champs though. Wow (even though of course the Authors are on the horizon, for now I'm gonna enjoy this title reign)
To me the Dusty Finals were underwhelming. It was still a decent match but never seemed to catch fire (other than the dive from the tower) And speaking of tower/shark cage. That was such a useless gimmick until I saw the commercial for the toy.
Roode-Dillinger was a great solid opener. Mickie vs Asuka was a good match. COuld've done with a minute or two more of Asuka fighting back and actually giving Mickie a reason to tap but heh..it told a story (especially since Asuka was all cocky after the match while she really just survived) Oh speaking of tapping. I got the feeling they were out of time or something. Because the ref tapped just before Mickie did..signaling to not prolong it maybe? | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
