I'm back home, with a profuse apology for omitting last week's Vaudvillains match from the recap. I knew I was going to drop the ball! This week, the Vaudvillains are back, hoping to take the belts off of Blake and Murphy.

We'll get to that later, though. First thing's first; they finally fixed the show's opening to reflect Finn Balor as champ. They also added in Sasha and Blake and Murphy, which I also thought was a nice touch. But it's been like a month, guys. You should have sorted this thing out a while ago. We go straight from the open to a match - Enzo and Cass are going to be taking on Dash and Dawson. Dash(Wilder) and Dawson have both been getting some good attention for themselves lately, especially Dawson. Tonight doesn't start out so good for them, though. Enzo hides behind Cass to start, but when he finally gets in and gets going, they wind up nailing just a mess of team moves on Dash and Dawson. First it's the bodyslam splash, then a corner move where Cass lifts and throws Enzo into the opponent. Enzo goes for a crossbody, which he hits, but it's not long before Enzo finds himself in peril, as is his role. Dash and Dawson work the arm, and Dawson has a couple of very nice suplexes to show off, of the hammerlock slingshot varieties. A hot tag to Cass cleans house, but just like in their last title match, Cass tags back in a dead Enzo to try and hit the rocket launcher. Seriously, he's so out of it, Carmella has to smack him around to get his head back in the game. Just like against Blake and Murphy, this fails to pay off. Enzo gets lured around the ring, and eats a devastating clothesline from Scott Dawson, followed by a move they call the Shatter Machine (a lift-assisted gutbuster across both knees). That's Dash and Dawson's finisher, and the score the upset.
Match Rating: Dash And Dawson Have A Finisher?!

Meanwhile, Jordan and Gable are backstage to let you know that, unlike other teams, they're all business. Except, you know, they're not. They spend the whole segment making fun of most of the other teams, including a great bit where Gable says the Hype Bros make him struggle to stay awake, and then has to wake up Jordan by pointing out that the Hype Bros are not actually wrestling right now. Chad Gable is great.

We get a quick package detailing Dana Brooke's feud with Charlotte over the Tapout ad spot. It's kind of a dumb feud.

Baron Corbin has a squash match and I'm not writing it up.
Match Rating: Where The Hell Is This Going, Already?

Tyler Breeze busts into GM Regal's office demanding a match for Takeover. Regal lets him know that he's arranged something very special for him, on account of how annoyed he's been by Breeze lately. I won't spoil it if you haven't already heard (and if you haven't but you want to know, it was brought up on This Very Board), but I will say that I'm a little hesitant about the whole thing.

Hey, Jordan and Gable have a match tonight, too. It's just against Some Jobbers, so hey, nothing much to see here. Jobber 1 does NOT want to lock up with Jason Jordan. Jobber 2 wants Chad Gable. What's wrong with poor Jason Jordan? Does he smell? Poor guy. Anyhoo, Gable does alright for a while, then does the "in peril" bit, then they murder the jobbers with their awesome finisher which is now called, I shit you not, the Grand Amplitude.
Match Rating: That Name Is So Cool.

Backstage, (ehh)Dana Brooke has a promo for us. It's...not really bad, actually. Pretty fundamental, and she does kind of lose her rhythm once or twice, but overall it's easily the best promo she's cut so far. Hey, she's getting better! She's still kind of bad, but we can safely say, Dana Brooke, You Are Not The Worst.

Now, for the true highlight of the show. It starts off as a package detailing fat Bull Dempsey's problems being fat. Then, it changes. It's time to get...Bull-Fit! Complete with terrible '90s video effects, Bull Dempsey has a motivational weight-loss and exercise package. Remember, the only thing standing between you and your goals...is you! This is absolutely incredible, and I'm leaving so much out right now. You have to see it, this is even better than Baron Corbin's green screen package. It's the best.

But now, we have to get back to wrestling. Charlotte is taking on (ehh)Dana Brooke, in what is probably going to be the cap on their feud. Charlotte comes out swinging. She puts in a big boot, and then starts dropping some seriously brutal knees, finishing with one without the pad. Emma doesn't like what she's seeing here, so some Emma-ference puts Dana in charge for a while. Her offense is looking a little better, too, but there's probably no way to make her bow-and-arrow submission look like it hurts somebody as lanky as Charlotte. Dana's control of this match doesn't last long. In short succession, Charlotte rolls out her neckbreaker, then the spear, then a very crisp-looking Natural Selection.
Match Rating: Take That, Dana Brooke!

Backstage, Samoa Joe is being '90s Taz. Seriously, he literally threatens to "choke out" Rhyno in their match next week. He's one "just another victim" or "my hands are my weapons" away from 100% duplication of an actual existing Taz promo. Still a good promo, though.

Also backstage, Kevin Owens apologizes to William Regal for hitting him last week. Read that again: Owens apologizes. Regal ain't buying it either, but accepts anyway. Like me, he wants to see Balor wreck this dude at Takeover.

Also backstage, Eva Marie is the worst and also a bad actress.

Kevin Owens has a squash match next; that's not important. The important thing is that the commentators point out that he has been fined an "undisclosed amount" due to his actions last week. So old-school!
Match Rating: Fines!
After, the jobber gets an Apron Bomb for bothering to show up. He actually takes it across the ropes instead of the apron. I'm not sure what's up with that. Anyhoo, after that, Owens gets up on the ringpost to taunt Balor with Balor's signature pose. Kevin Owens is a dick.

We had words from Samoa Taz earlier, but for Rhyno we have a video package. They dust off some old ECW footage, and drop in the audio of Paul Heyman doing "Gore! Gore! Gore!" I'm pretty excited for the match next week.

Our main event this week is for the Tag Team championship. The Vaudvillains come out of the gate strong. Gotch works an armbar into a la magistral cradle, which is very nice. They bring back the "Dukes Up!" spot, which I love to death. That needs to be on a T-shirt. Aiden English has a mess of good-looking offense as well, including an absolutely beautiful double arm drag and a bicep pump-up elbow strike. I don't think my description really sold that, but trust me, it was cool. Anyoo, Aiden English is really taking it to Blake and Murphy, including a spot where he sends everybody out of the ring, and then just stats kicking and punching everything in sight. Unfortunately, it proves too much for him to juggle by himself, and Blake and Murphy take charge. Nothing fancy from them this week, just good, old-fashioned grounding offense. English makes the hot tag to Gotch, and Gotch starts throwing forearms like they're going out of style. Maybe they're retro now? After about a half dozen of those, Blake and Murphy are on the ropes. The Vaudvillains dump Blake out of the ring and go for the Whirling Dervish, but Alexa Bliss scores a distraction. Meanwhile, Blake has run around to the other side of the ring, and sweeps Gotch's feet out from under him. Murphy rolls up English with a handful of tights, and the champs retain.
Match Rating: A Strong First Act.
After the match, the Vaudvillains straight murder Blake and Murphy, even hitting the Whirling Dervish. This leaves Bliss alone in the ring with them. Gotch and English are both clearly pissed at her, but the crowd chants "Chivalry," and they know that gentlemen would never lay a hand on a "lady." They actually hold the ropes open for her to leave the ring, but instead she gets in their faces and slaps both of them. Pretty hard, too. Bliss is hardcore. The champs celebrate up the entrance ramp, while the Vaudvillains fume in the ring.

Good storytelling all around this week, and some solid in-ring action to boot. I'm curious to see where the thing with Enzo and Cass is going, and it's clear that the Vaudvillains need some kind of equalizer to deal with the champs at Takeover. Plus, they built up that Joe/Rhyno match really well in very little time. Good stuff.

This post is all about Tag Teams:

I don't like where the direction they are heading with Enzo and Big Cass. The commentary talk about how Enzo has to tag in Cass for all the heavy lifting. The fact that they've lost three big matches the same way (Cass beats up everyone, tags in a nearly dead Enzo to do their double team finisher, Cass get's distracted which distracts Enzo into getting pinned). I feel like they are teasing a break-up with them again which would be beyond moronic. The only other tag team in the COMPANY that is as over as them is The New Day.

They have no business jobbing to the sawn off midget version of the Minnesota Wrecking Crew.

Speaking of old tag teams, I can't believe they just did a remake of the World's Greatest Tag Team with Jordan and Gable. They even kinda wear similar tights as Hass and Benjamin did.

The end with Alexa slapping the Vaudvillains was weak. I know they are from a time of masculine gentleman long gone but guys in the 30's with chivalrous only with women that conduct themselves like ladies, which Bliss did not. This is the PC era of wrestling so I'm not saying they should clock her or put her over the knee and spank her like in the Attitude Era. But Gotch could of gave her an Airplane Spin at least, not doing anything after losing then both getting slapped made them both look like losers.

I do find the attractive woman with the two goofy meathead jerks who verbally and physically disrespects the beta gentleman who try to show her respect an interesting microcosm of relations between men and women today however.

End of Tag team talk:

That Bull Dempsey segment was the shit! Don't just get fit get Bull-fit! The next time he pops up into the Full Sail Zone (thanks Tony) he's gonna get a pop like a megastar bank on it.

Why is Corbin still in these Goldberg squash matches? He's doing the same thing as a heel as he was as a face and it's just uninspired. I'm guessing they are saving him as the next person in line to go after Balor after he defends against Owens. If not Samoa Joe is RIGHT THERE with no one to Tazzplex.

Perhaps the Vaudevillains will next add Blue Pants in burlesque cosplay to their ranks.

Yes I too am sick of women constantly moonsaulting on the rights of men. It's like the world's turned upside down. During the moonsault I mean.

I fixed that for you.

I would watch a montage a montage of Bull Dempsey in trying on different 90s workout outfits all day. In fact, I may have watched that several times already.
