WWE.com has announced that Corey Graves will be stepping in for JBL on the Smackdown announce table. He'll be doing double duty with Raw, while Nigel McGuiness will be calling the action on 205 Live and Main Event, which I didn't realise was still a thing. Thoughts? | #3 Posted on 4.9.17 1439.26 Reposted on: 4.9.24 1439.32 | I like Graves - no, scratch that, I think Graves is possibly the greatest wrestling commentator of all time - but this seems unreasonably complicated to me. They've got this poor guy working every show they can put him on. Why not reach out to somebody new to try color, like Daniel Bryan, who hasn't had much of anything going on since the end of Talking Smack? Why not give Renee Young a real job around the place, instead of squandering her as another mic stand? At least they're not doing what I was most concerned they would do, and give it to JR or Lita.
You know, for a little while there, they had a nice, deep roster of commentary people. Then, they inexplicably shifted them into other roles or released them (or both, Alex Riley). They could probably use some of those folks now.
Edit: I just out of nowhere realized that this at least reunites the team of Graves and Phillips, so it's not all bad news.

It will be hard to stay hot and fresh with that. Not sure there is anyone else who would be worth a try as you might end up with a Otunga again.
But he will love being able to slate Saxton again regularly! | Quezzy

Renee Young did commentary in NXT and was one of the worst commentators in the company. Renee has even admitted this and seems to have no interest in doing it. Renee does seem like she's being wasted in her current role, but she does her current role better than anyone, not commentary.
That being said, it'd be nice if they found a woman that could do it but I guess "The Women's Revolution" is about letting women kind of sort of be important wrestlers and not any other positions in the company. | Big G

I like Graves, hopefully the pace isn't too much for him, or that he gets overexposed too much. | thecubsfan

| #9 Posted on 5.9.17 2202.46 Reposted on: 5.9.24 2202.51 | this is a minor point compared to the rest, but Nigel getting added to two shows in addition to NXT sure seems to mean that UK show is nowhere close to happening. Can't imagine they'd have him doing four shows at once and there'd be no point into adding him to Main Event and/or 205 Live if it was just going to be a short term deal.
(They probably isn't a great pint to having him doing 3, especially when the bench is as empty as it seems to be. I'd guess he's not really all that long for Main Event. No one ever is; the Main Event wikipedia page contains a wondrous list of broadcast teams you never knew existed.) | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
