| #1 Posted on 28.1.18 1456.44 Reposted on: 28.1.25 1457.12 | I do not think we've had an Impact thread since Eli Drake became world champion. Impact really hasn't deserved one, but in a way it is a shame since Drake's been having a magnificent title run.
The Drake run reminds me of a cross between Roode's 2011-12 old-school heel reign, Austin's 1998 man against the world reigns, and ECIII's 2015-16 rising star with a bodyguard reigns.
This week:
1. Grand Championship: Matt Sydal defeated Ethan Carter III (c) to win the title.
This was not a Grand-style rules match, because Matt continually was unable to beat ECIII under the rounds format. This win is about as legitimate as winning a hardcore title via DQ. Sydal is nominally the babyface, but the crowd was mega behind ECIII. Ethan's heel run has been good at reinvigorating his character and reminding fans why they adore him.
2. Knockouts Championship: Laurel Van Ness (c) retained against Allie
Van Ness is starting to show signs of her rich girl character again, as her angry gilted bride gimmick is starting to recede. Allie is becoming more confident rather than playing the newbie.
3. Moose defeated Bobby Lashley (w/Dan Lambert and KM)
Throughout the match KM continually tried "helping" Lashley. Lashley did not want (or need) KM's help, and has been pissed in recent weeks by Lambert's egomanical attitude, and by not receiving the credit that he is due.
After KM accidentally cost Lashley the match, Lashley finally turned on American Top Team, speared Lambert through a table, and shook Moose's hand.
Not sure if this counts as a babyface turn, or Lashley just becoming sick of American Top Team holding him back. Over the past few months Lashley's plotline has been that Jarrett wanted him to focus on TNA, Lambert wanted him to focus on MMA, and TNA refusing to give Lashley his release. Lashley lost a couple of key matches, and that was framed as him being distracted by being pulled between two worlds.
Also, along the way Dan Lambert retired James Storm with help from KM. This puts Storm as the front runner for the Hall of Fame this year. I guess Storm decided to stay a year longer than planned, hence no Hall of Fame inductee last year despite the early hints that Storm would be 2017.
Lashley doing the Moose hand gesture after the match was fun.
4. X-Division Championship: Filmed in Noah: Taiji Ishimori (c) retained against Andrew Everett
Just nice to finally see Everett get his long awaited on-on-one title shot.
5. Impact Global Championship: Six Sides of Steel: Eli Drake (w/ Chris Adonis) (c) defeated Alberto el Patron and Johnny Impact via escaping the cage.
Both Drake and Impact were about to climb over the cage and hit the floor at the same time, but Adonis grabbed Impact in the masterlock, to keep his feet off of the floor until Drake had landed.
Drake and Adonis have great chemistry as a duo. Promote this thread! | | graves9
