The season finale of House was last night, and it certainly was a detour from the normal episode. I'm actually surprised we were left with a cliffhanger of House's medical condition into next season. I'm gonna assume his leg DOESN'T get better- that's one of the things that really made him "House." Episodes with hallucinations can get confusing, and this was one of those times (although not a lot). I really liked how he got to figure out which were and which weren't hallucinations toward the end (Cuddy standing up when he came in to her office, etc.).

Any thoughts?

This summer they are running the entire season over agian with back to back episodes each Tuesday. I for one am happy about this as I dropped House when Scrubs came back so it will give me a chance to watch some episdoes I missed.

I did see the season finale and thought it was great. Not a good as the Nick Buried Alive finale of CSI last year, but real good on its own. It definately kept me thinking all episode.

That had to be the most graphic episode I can remember, what with the eyeball, the "ball-ball", and the final slice. Gave me the screamin' heebie-jeebies.

I am an Elias Koteas fan, so I enjoyed his role immensely. I have to wonder if House actually remembered the guy as reflected in his hallucination, or if that was simply his unconscious self filling in the details. I certainly lean toward the latter.

It was cute how he had everyone else dutifully doing his rehab exercises for him. Also cute how he was testing the robot on Cameron. "Seen enough?" "No." Heh.

That was AWESOME!

We were actually having spaghetti and meatballs for dinner last night while watching this and let me tell you. It wasn't funny to one of us while I didn't stop laughing for hours afterwords because it turned into my favorite scene from STAND BY ME.

If you missed the two-parter from a couple weeks ago where Dr. Foreman got sick, that was probably more comparable and closer to the level of the CSI Grave Danger episode. It was really great. Last night's was a delight too -- it's always great when they stray from their formula and mess with the narrative structure (this, the Three Stories from last year, and the one where Chase screwed up).

You just named my three favorite House episodes, Justin; this one is the fourth.

I've read some criticism of the episode as a "cop-out," because it's a dream sequence. I think that's hogwash. The great thing about House, so far, has been the almost total certitude and confidence of the main character. Yet you sit there wondering, "How can a guy this discerning and insightful NOT skewer himself?" This episode answered that question/complaint really well, because we got House's hyper-rationality turned inward in a disorienting way. Having him just argue with himself and question himself would have been boring TV. But by couching it in the dream sequence, we get an entertaining romp disguising what is basically self-evisceration. (Make what you will of his eviscerating the imagined patient.)

Presumably, Cuddy's "experimental German treatment" is a real treatment in the "House" universe (it IS real, in real life, and also very experimental), which means that House knows about it and has thought about it. So his happiness and recovery is something he's contemplated, as is the possibility that he'd accidentally rewire his critical faculties as well as his chronic pain. Those conversations with Cuddy and Wilson were conversations with himself, and I think they'll bear really interesting fruit in the coming season.

I'm also betting that the shooter — supposedly named "Moriarty," according to ep guides — got away and will figure again in future episodes. They've already given House's address as apartment #221B, and the Holmes parallels are all over the place. I think we'll find out that the man's backstory in this episode was House's brain just filling in blanks and creating variables; and instead next season we'll find that he's a mysterious brilliant stranger who got away.

I hope, at least.

They could just make him out to be Keyser Soze.
