It all came down to two decidedly different examples of cinematic sludge: The $250 million comic book oop-us Batman v Superman and the faux right wing “documentary” Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party. Once the smoke cleared, it was a tie: Both films “won” four of this year's 37th Annual Razzie Award trophies when “winners” were announced via video and press release on February 25, the now traditional day before The Giving Out of the Little Gold Naked Men.
Batman v Superman (which was so good it was completely re-cut for Blu-Ray/DVD release) walked off with Worst Screenplay, Worst Supporting Actor (Jesse Eisenberg) Worst Remake Rip-Off or Sequel, and Worst Screen Combo, Ben Affleck and His BFF (Baddest Foe Forever) Henry Cavill. Hillary's America (which got a truly rotten 96% Negative rating at Rotten Tomatoes) was chosen as Worst Picture, Worst Actor (Dinesh D'Souza playing himself) Worst Actress (whoever it was who played Ms. Clinton) and Worst Director (shared by D'Souza and Bruce Schooley). D'Souza shows himself to be a good sport, appearing in the announcement video linked above, gleefully accepting 3 of the 4 Razzies his film “won.”
Voting Razzie Members (1,027 from 49 US States and 25 countries) selected the “winners” in 8 of our 9 categories. For Worst Screen Combo, we partnered again with Rotten Tomatoes where thousands of users determined the outcome.
A complete list of “winners” is included with this press release, and can also be found at www.razzies.com.
