Words can't describe what a blow this is. It hurts doubly coming on the heels of the good Renteria trade, which shored up both the defense and the lineup perfectly. Hopes go up...hopes get dashed. Welcome to Detroit!
At least the Tigers have the full free agent period to look for a replacement. Seemed to work out okay for my Cubs when they approached last offseason with the assumption that neither Prior or Wood would be counted on for anything. And then Woody turned out to be a nice bonus down the stretch.
Although I can feel your concern when a young talent like that becomes prone to freak injuries.
And it's one thing if it was just he's prone to freak accidents. With this, there's also the added "bonus" of the possibility that he won't be able to throw triple digit speeds again. Just a hugely depressing story.
That's nice thinking and all, but c'mon man, you're talking about the Cubs here. He probably would've been the 60s version of Dwight Gooden with their luck. That's like putting a Jeff Bagwell Red Sox card up there.
