I should have just went with the link. I typed something like 'Carlos Zambrano just no-hit the Houston Astros at an Astros home game in Milwaukee of all places. It's the Cubs' first no-hitter since Milt Pappas did it in 1972.' I got greedy.
Geovanny Soto caught the game which adds another feather to his cap in a remarkable rookie season. ROY, going away.
Ditto. The more important point is Carlos Zambrano is completely awesome AND what looked like a rapidly narrowing NL Central on Thursday has gone completely the other way:
CHC ---- MIL -7.5
meanwhile, the East and the Wild Card are crazy tight
NYM 83-65 in (by 1 game) PHI 83-67 tied MIL 83-67 tied HOU 80-68 -2.0
Well, so much for that sore rotator cuff. I really would hate to have to see him at 100% if the Mets and the Cubs meet in the playoffs. That is, if the Mets even make it. After fucking up 2 out of 3 against the Braves, I don't feel confident about our chances right now.
I'll be the first to say that the Astros got hosed on this one. They got uprooted from the home field by a major hurricane and flown off on short notice to a "home" game in Milwaukee, where there were more Cubs fans than...well...there weren't ANY Astros fans there. And against a fully-rested Zambrano, no less. A no-hitter's a remarkable thing and this isn't to take away from it (too much), but the deck was awfully stacked in Zambrano's favor there.
I'm not saying the Cubbies wouldn't have won that game, but there's no way Zambrano throws a no-hitter if the Astros have any chance to prepare before that game.
Man - so I was in a power outage (due to the Ike passthrough here) and missed this. But I was also thinking Saturday when I heard the games were in Mke that it might be stacked in the Cubs favor a little.
We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

Z has been awfully good against the stros...he has switch-hit homers in the Astros' stadium you know.

You know, they've got the best team in baseball, did you really need to give them extra home games Uncle Bud?
Also biggest kick in the teeth of the night was having to have them cut away from my White Sox to show me Carlos Zambrano, who is in my top 5 of biggest jackasses in baseball, throwing a no-no. Then bringing me back to my game just in time to see the Sox trying their best to choke away what was a 7-0 lead. Thanks ESPN.
Well, MLB told Drayton McLane that they needed to move the games on Friday, if not earlier. McLane held out hope that SOMETHING would happen that would allow them to play in Houston. When he finally gave up all hope, much later than the projected announcement time of mid-afternoon Saturday, MLB put the screws to him and said 'you're going to Milwaukee because these games WILL get played'.
In wrestling terms, MLB didn't screw Houston, Houston screwed Houston.
And yes, the ticket prices were of the premium variety. Doesn't really matter, since the money will go to Houston anyway.

Matsui has hinted he might take next season off to play for Japan in the Olympics, so that could take him off the market. No-Arm is from the area, so it could give them a local guy to market the team off of.
