If you think about it, they did give him the "See The One-Legged Wonder!" treatment, it just was never obvious. Just the way that Zach was treated in the ring by other wrestlers really sold it. I don't think Zach could come on TV during his debut angle without either Vince, Brock, or Matt Hardy calling him a 'sideshow freak'. Sure, WWE did push the "triumph over adversity" side of it, but that was heavily undershadowed with "Can a one-legged kid beat Vince at Vengeance (or, win a match at all)?"

Don't get me wrong, I rooted for him each time he came to the ring, despite whatever his backstage actions were. I think he had a lot of potential, and could put on a good match, as long as he didn't keep jobbing to Matt Hardy and Shannon. It would have been nice to see his character developed, but WWE tends not to see things through like that. *sigh*

Billing him as a freak doesn't automatically mean he was put out to be ridiculed. It just means he was put out there to be seen because he was different. He was used the only way they could: they billed him as "the inspirational one-legged wrestler", let him hop around in the ring, gave him his paycheck, and sent him on his way.

Being a "freak" doesn't carry the same stigma it used to. This isn't the nineteenth century any more, and Zach's not James Merrick. He knew what he was getting into, just like anyone else with an obvious physical abnormality does when they decide to trade in on it. He came out of it relatively famous, and both sides made money off the deal.

Schiavone was an embarrassment to "This great sport". Him being off my TV in all forms, is the STILL best thing that has happened to wrestling... He even made "Ready to Rumble" even WORSE. Now that's saying something...
