They're giving away a free month starting on 10/28 (though it looks like something you'll have to unsub from not to automatically get billed.)
The ads on YouTube have become increasingly annoying - I believe I got the same video ad on five straight videos the other day - but $10 seems too high just to remove them. Original content sounds good, but there's so much good content out there I have no time to watch that it really has to be something spectacular to move the needle for me. Maybe I'd feel differently if I wasn't still a TV-first person; people who just watch YouTube all day (or especially those who use YouTube as their music service) might get more out of it.
I do generally like that they're trying to find another way to pay people who are using this service.
If you have an LCD monitor, it is possible that the cable is not fully connected. This sounds like what happens on my work PC when the cable is a little loose - I get a very distorted picture (seems like some pins are connecting but not all).
