Getting a new actor =/= a reboot. All of the bond films prior to Casino Royale (2006) were part of the same timeline/universe. The series in general rarely referenced previous films because they are all meant to be standalone adventures. Only the Connery films had any sort of loose over arching plot (Bond vs Blofeld/Spectre).
In terms of Major box office releases, there was NO origin story for James Bond until Casino Royale, and even then, it limited to an awesome precredits sequence where he earns his two required kills for "00" agent status. Casino Royale is a reboot more because it is establishing a timeline/narrative/saga for James Bond, not because there is a "younger" actor playing him. Quantum of Solace picks up from the exact SECOND Casino Royale ended and all of the character development in Royale is furthered in Solace.
Its a reboot that completely serves a purpose in reinvigorating a franchise. People had no reason to care about bond, because nothing interesting had been done with the character since "Licence to Kill" where he went Rogue and essentially murdered drug dealing scumbags who fed his best friend to a shark (unfortunately, Felix lives through the film).
Spiderman faces a different challenge, because they want a younger actor AND a specific timeline which requires that the last three episodic movies be forgotten.
Even still, Spiderman's Origin is simple enough that they could tell it in about 20 mins. It not nearly as complex as Nolan's Batman. | odessasteps

That theory has been around for decades and it's apocryphal.
It does however apply to Jason Bourne.

Well, maybe if you are taking about the "spoof" Casino Royale, where "the original" James Bond (David Niven) gave all the remaining agents the code name James Bond to try and confuse SMERSH.
Contextually, there was never any indication that the various Bonds were different people, except for the "winking" nod from George Lazenby at the start of OHMSS.

Out of all that, the first 25 issues of Ultimate Spider-Man were by far the best. The mere fact that the script is inspired mostly by Bendis & Bagley's masterpiece is enough for me.
I wonder what exactly they will use from Ultimate Spidey since those books begin with Osborn and the Goblin and then Doc Oc iirc. Lizard's only a small piece, later on. Plus MJ's there from the start while Gwen Stacy isn't. I'd laugh if they use the Geldoff character though
I have no reason to dislike what I've seen about the movie so far. But I've no reason to really like it either. We'll see how it turns out.

Info about Andrew Garfield growing up as a geeky outsider who idolized Spider-Man as a boy, and Marc Webb's comic book reading geek cred as well. No real information about the movie besides it's "more contemporary, gritty", less CGI than Raimi used, and it's being shot in 3D. It wasn't clear either if Sony plans to show any footage at Comic Con, if there even is completed footage.

This is the leaked teaser for The Amazing Spider-Man. (youtube.com) Presumably the one which will be shown at Comic Con.
The quality is crappy and dark but it's enough to get an impression.
My impression: Huh. Not a bad "huh". It feels like Lost in Translation mixed in with the 1970s Spider-Man TV show starring Nicholas Hammond. With some Mirror's Edge mixed in for the POV stuff. I kind of like the more "real world" look to it; Raimi shot the comic book-looking Spidey. Going the other direction is interesting. Huh.
Definitely going to do everything I can to make it into the Sony panel at Comic Con to see what the new Spider filmmakers have to say and show. I'm Spi-curious.

| #32 Posted on 20.7.11 1429.24 | I'm with the people that think that re-telling the origin story is kind of a buzzkill.
I think it's very possible to "reboot" Spider-Man while picking up after all of the origin stuff is out of the way. If you need to show it at all, just throw in some BS flashbacks, but even those aren't necessary.
Raimi did such a great job with the Spider-Man movies (at least the first two) that it's hard to make things we've already seen realized cinematically enticing on any level.
I don't blame Webb, though, for the marketing. What he has to do to sell me is make a great Spider-Man movie. No amount of "Ooh! You get to see him getting bit by the spider!" is going to get me amped up for it. Hearing that he successfully took over the reigns from Raimi will.

It might have been fine rebooting a 1970 movie in 1980, but people have DVDs and can access movies much easier.
The origin story has been told in numerous comics, novel adaptations, the NBC Saturday morning cartoon, the MTV cartoon, coloring books and so on and so on. He was bit by a spider -- his Uncle dies-- we get it. Plus, how do you top Randy Savage as Bonesaw McGraw?

I know the plot - but as long as the story is well written and the acting is good, I can deal with a reboot if it QUICKLY leads to Part II and does not make me wait three years.
Life is hilariously cruel.

It looks like they're going for half-assed dark/gritty, and this just isn't the source material for dark/gritty. Spider-Man is a wisecracking nerd, that's part of his appeal. They are clearly taking the nod from the Nolan Batfilms, which I think is dumb. Those films work because Batman's world is dark when it's at its best. What's next? My Gritty Little Pony?

Goth My Little Pony at San Diego Comic-Con for $15.00. Yeah, Peter's world is a bit dark when you think about the death surrounding him, but its not Dark Knight dark. I'd like Raimi's films mainly for showing Spiderman in a bright world even if it looked a bit cheesy.

| #40 Posted on 21.7.11 0802.40 | Instant Rating: 0.71 | Sin Eater was terrible. The Stacy deaths were actually done in broad daylight, so the material was dark, but the backgrounds were not which is the big complaint about it. Kraven I will give you, but the reason Kraven worked was the fact that it was a very dark story in a rather bright world. You can't run a lot of those stories back to back with Spidey and be Spiderman. Peter's life is dark yet there is light at the end of the tunnel with MJ til they fucked that up. As bad as Spiderman's life gets he doesn't go as far as Punisher, Bruce or even Daredevil. To be fair, a lot of the dark gritty stories about Peter sound more like Daredevil stories than Spiderman stories.
My favorite Spidey stories were the first 12 issues and annual that lead to the Sinister Six, Return of the Sinister Six, Gang War, the Hogoblin mystery as well as JMS' run. Yes, there was some dark elements in those stories, but they were never dark for the sake of being dark. Also, in a good chunk of those, Spidey was working with other heroes. It makes sense for Avengers to be the big superhero team-up, it really wish they would show Spidey with other heroes since he is the glue that really keeps that universe together.
